>> There are few posts that I could allow to go up without text but this could well be one of them.  Still, I must insist on trilling on.  Skip it if you wish to just take in the beauty of Julia Finsk's Project No. 4 shoes.  I've blogged about Finsk's 'Project Series' before and had the pleasure of roadtesting Project No. 1.  'Test' is actually a key word to remember when looking at these shoes that Finsk creates, because they are entirely free of constraints allowing her to push shape and form to the upper limits and really experiment and test out ideas.  They're like the prototype that comes out after an intensive shoe laboratory session, discounting the shoe's walkability, production possibilities and cost factors.  Yet they're evocative enough for onlookers to want to walk in them and actually I find they're not so freakish or outrageous that you'd disregard walkng in them.  In fact, Finsk do get people buying their project series despite the prohibitive cost.  I spent a good five minutes just looking at the shoes pondering them as a beautiful object in its own right and with Finsk's appreciation of interiors and architecture, it's easy to see the shoe on a display shelf or in a gallery space.

This season, the shoe is drawn around the number four which you can vaguely see.  There is no thematic inspiration point but rather Finsk has drawn an instinctive shape and paired them with the materials that make her shoes quite distinctive.  The shoe incorporates a mix of different wood finishings, leather and suede and this time round, she's also employed perspex, which is particularly effective when place in transparent orange against the wood in the heel.  I'll hopefully be tracking the progress of how a Project No. 4 shoe comes to be in a few weeks time but in the meantime, I guess it's best to just scroll down…

  1. Wow! Those babies are out of control. Might have to get a pair ;). BTW, I’ve been a big fan of the site for a while Рfirst time posting. I really love the stuff you’ve got on here.

  2. I wouldn’t disregard walking in these beauties any day; however deliberating that sense in reality, away from the dreaming fase, i wouldn’t bet i could step foot out of my door withouht triggering shoe-form earthquake, considering their lofty weight and height form….However the main concept and aesthetic of this collection is truly remarkable; it tests new dynamics, heights and elaborations amongst the brand itself and how they are developing their models and ideas to reach a new barrier amid their previous work. Great post!

  7. The black are perfect. I’d wear them if the ankle strap looked a little tighter. They really are perfect.
