Mugler Moments

>> I know there'll be an onslaught of pics, words, press and just general Mugler bombardment on a lot of your internet surfing time over the next 24 hours  I wasn't intending to add to that until tonight when I well and truly believe a 'moment' of a show played out as the last show, despite my weary tired self crying out for pasta – hunger and tiredness diminished for about ten minutes during Mugler.  A fashion show executed as a spectacle for people to gasp, audibly cheer and viscerally react to is a rarity these days so clothes aside, at the very least Nicola Formichetti's debut womenswear collection was a spectacle (hopefully the live stream didn't crash out on the peeps that were watching) and beyond that, the familiar Mugler lines that most of us will have hazy memories of, supported by old VH1 videos, magazines and pixelated internet pics, were given due respect and revived in a way that might hush some cynics…

  1. You’re right. The reaction of the crowd made the show (and collection) even more special. I was also very impressed that the live stream didn’t crash (I was watching it).In general it was great, all of it.

  2. it just looks like a whole collection designed for gaga. disappointed

  3. The general show looked boring. Thierry Mugler raised the bar high, this didn’t touch classic Mugler shows in any way. I found it very mediocre, amateurish.

  4. Ironically, if you look at Mugler’s history (decades back), you’ll see that his designs are really similar to Gaga’s costumes. I think she was a good ‘fit’ for the show.

  5. I think it’s an interesting pieces, all the shape is bold and amazing even it shown in basic colors

  6. I loved the cropped sweaters at the beginning of the show and the nude shoulder padded dress. Watching the footage made my morning!

  7. I wish I could have been there! I also missed the live stream by an hour grrr. I’m glad you posted about it if you really enjoyed it! I can’t imagine what an experience it must have been.

  8. It’s got to be said guys that this is NOT the full representation of the collection – my camera was acting up in the erratic lighting.
Let’s not talk about this ‘touching’ Thierry Mugler, the original and seeing as it’s now Mugler, reinvented and revived, I’m not sure if we can keep trying to make the work ‘touch’ the past… Mugler was a designer of his time, someone who created a moment – I’d never look back at his work and go…”Ahhh…timeless classic!” – for me, he stormed in with a revolution…
I would say that Formichetti is trying to take a less singular approach, reflect his gathering of talents (his credits list was looooong) in a team effort that isn’t just about one person’s vision. I really think we need to look at this as a house rejuvenation in a similar vein to Tisci at Givenchy perhaps – nobody would ever say he was ‘touching’ Hubert de Givenchy no?
    Let’s give it a few seasons…

  9. I thought this was an undeniable ‘fashion moment’ and, despite not particularly like the actual collection, having Gaga was a major trump card and totally elevated the whole thing to a grand spectacle as you rightly stated susie. I loved watching the livestream and seeing Twitter explode with exclaimation marks and people hurried typing out there excitment in 140 characters!!

  10. The lady is a vamp!
Love her or hate her, Gaga was fierce and she definitely won this walk off!
