>> I'm kicking off 2011 with an outfit post that hopefully incorporates more of the thought process behind what I'm wearing, something that many "What I'm Wearing" blogs do to varying levels.  I'll try to be as annoyingly literal and illustrative about it where possible.  A gift from me to you for being loyal readers.

Hold up, hold up, rewind – I just realised that the first sentence might sound like a load of shite to some – as in, it's just FRICKIN' clothes on your back – an act that shouldn't be so lofty as to require such a thing as 'thought process'.

More often than not, I might even agree with that opinion, especially when you have five minutes to get ready in the morning and the only thought running through your head is "I need to cover up my nipples so that the people in the damn building across from me don't get an eyeful."  Except for the majority of outfits that I put on, there IS in fact a thought process – a brief run-through of minutiae in the head that in the scheme of things, is completely insignificant.  I suppose in the same way I tend to take a lot of photos of smaller details in outfits which are totally unnecessary, the photographic sum of inspiration parts in the equation will just make these posts that bit longer.  Cue slower loading time and more exhaustion of your internet bandwidth.  Thanks Susie you say.

This did initially revolve around the decorated bit of frou frou running up and down my legs but as I put some Victorian broderie anglaise drawers or pantalets  under the skirt and the only white blazer that I own, went over, I realised that I had one photo in mind, the only one of my mother and I that I have in my flat seeing as most of my family photos are back at my parents' place.

It may be the only baby photo in existence where I'm sitting so still because by all accounts I was a fidgeting wailer…

Of course, the stockings which come with a matching suspender belt were also a key contributor to my 2011 recreation of the blubby 'Mummy and I' pic.  They hail from Sock Box, a Latvian label specialising in legwear and these particular dusky pink-toned fancies, are from their Boudoir collection.  The stocking itself and its 'flesh tone' (I have to keep reminding myself that it's a huge PC error to even use this word considering the many tones that 'flesh' can be) in particular makes me think of manila stationary and brown parcel paper for some reason – both comforting things in my stationery ranking chart.

Their Etsy page doesn't seem to sell any of these Boudoir bits that they have on their webpage but for now, there's a pair of short knitted cycling shorts with frills at the edge which look like an updated version of cotton bloomers.

  1. Wow I’ve never seen tights that look like that before!
I love your top and skirt too <3 Very pretty look

  2. Very beautiful and utterly feminine, I love it when people are not afraid of any rules when getting ready, rules are there to be broken! x

  3. love the stockings.
Also I do not believe that it must be justified to have a thought process to dressing. For some of us the way we dress ourselves and combine things is a creative outlet, a valid art form, and a means of expression!

  4. I love their ankle socks! They are so amazing. I’m definitely keeping an eye on their etsy shop for the Boudoir collection. And I always really like the photo’s of the small details!
Thank you for the inspiration :- )
    Kindly,

  5. I am at a loss for words after seeing your tights, ahhhhhhhhhhhhh fantastic.
I have fallen in love again…
    Un abrazo from Spain.

  6. It is so sensible and controlled, if I was one of those people that say “you changed” I would apply it now except it is more like evolution.

  7. Sabina: Nope they’re fixed there…. but yes, they would be lovely as garter attachments if your skirt allows them to be shown off!
Minette: Couldn’t agree more – guess I have trouble thinking of personal style as an art form… it definitely is creative expression though! Is there a distinction between the two? Hmmm…. oh dear…. getting myself confused here!
Michael McCabe: Thanks for the observation. Well… I embrace change too…. but evolution is perhaps better!

  8. This outfit is so soothing on the eyes. I like the camel skirt with the Victorian drawers. I checked out SockBox. They take stockings to a whole new level. I would be afraid to wear there tights. Gosh forbid, I put my tights on without tearing them!
    Long time fan =)
