Primary Concern

>> I did say I was going to be sharing more images linked to the origins of outfits.  Unfortunately, Google Image Search yielded some very crap representations of all my favourite things that so obviously inspired this primary colour blast here… all typography to do with shows like Noddy, Playdays, Fun House and Art Attack, the starter pack of Play Dough, Lego, taking the three primary colours of Crayola crayons and taping them together to draw patterns with… the list goes on as to why primary colours will always resonate in my head as a tenacious colour trio.  Weirdly it's one that doesn't play out in my outfits so much because despite all of those cononations to those happy hours of watching telly and messing around with the most maleable toys of them all, together in an outfit, they can strike a jarring note.  Clownish comes to mind.  Still, there is no where to go except Primary Colour Ville when I got the Sibling for Topshop Sister jumper, some H&M red leather cropped trousers and I wanted to resurrect this old blue floppy hat (which will always remind me of longtime reader Dru) and a pair of vintage shoes which I don't seem to wear enough.  Clownish it is then.

Incidentally, if you do happen to be messing around with Play Dough – keep the colours separate!  Mixing them has catastrophic results and just makes you weep when all you're left with is a murky purple greying mess.

  1. I love the hat! It’s such a great colour and has a sort of film noir vibe, but then off course modernised!
Fun post, especially the Play Dough reference!

Those surrounded pieces are just stunning, I must save up my money for one!

  8. I do love all the bright bold colour blocks heading our way for the summer, quite a scary concept of wearing them altogether, but you do pull it of i must say! and that uniform blue is definatly growing with me, started slowly with the nail polish but think Im ready to move on! x
