Gliding with Lilly

>> I've been making more regular trips to Topshop due to sisterly bonding sessions that involves me trying to get my younger siblings to buy everything.  I camp out around the Boutique/Unique/Designers area a fair bit, and often think that it's got a pretty comprehensive core wardrobe all laid out there.  Xavier Brisoux for instance makes a lovely addition to the enclave, with his sheer-backed knitwear that I'm glad Topshop have picked up for their Emerge area.  The Central Saint Martins MA collection repros  still linger and after going for obvious dramatics with the Matthew Harding 'lampshade' constructed top to accompany the dramatic weather of the latter of 2010, I succumbed to one of the more subtle but no less impactful pieces by Lilly Heine.  It's funny that my initial reaction to the Central Saint Martins MA was a lethargic and wrongly underwhelmed one and as months have gone by, seeing the designers to progress to various stages of showing their post-MA collections, winning accolades and doing collaborations have made me eat those initial thoughts.  This slow burning effect has trickled on to the point where I've actually written more about the individuals of this particular crop of CSM MA graduates than any other year preceding it.  Then again, this could also be the breadth of opportunities that have become available to the students – Thomas Tait collaborating with ASOS, the aforementioned Lilly Heine and Matthew Harding reproducing collections for Topshop, Tze Goh being stocked exclusively in LN-CC – to name but a few.  In any case, I'm glad that I've had the opportunity to directly buy and wear pieces that previously existed only as Catwalking images or on student portfolio pages and wonder if this process of MA talent showcasing will expand come February when the next lot of students present their work.

I couldn't help but get snap-happy with the appliqued rectangular layers that resembles an Aztec pyramid formation…

I just bought a pair of sheer BOY London covered in the print, from the Sick Boutique near Brick Lane, just mentioning it because I saw a girl walked pass me outside and it just looked like you! Apologies if it wasnt.

  5. Agnes Szucs: The hem and the neckline edges are sealed with heat…. the square panels however have some fraying edges to it…

  7. Lilly Heine’s use of shapes and geometrics is fantastic. I saw it at the UK Topshop site. She is fantastic and I see her designs definitely going far. I love this top you have and the other shaped one. Overlaping squares on a good day.

  9. Your outfit is a great example of juxtaposition of fabrics; an example of mixture of sheer and heavy fabrics; an example of balance. Only a person with a keene fashion sense can have the sense to mix sheer pants with the heavinesss of the dress fabric. Great style!

  10. l love how you play with the pastels and the textures in this outfit πŸ™‚ Lilly’s pieces at the Central Saint Martins show were amazing, in fact I even saved the pictures and the name just for a follow up. In general, this year for some reason, I was quite fascinated with graduates, it will be interesting to see how they progress and grow in the industry.

  11. hehehe,
I do the same with my little sister. It’s much more fun ordering them to try on clothes! Your colour palette is beautiful, by the way.

  12. Susie, you have a beautiful way with lines. Those parallels echoing each other up and down this outfit have made me see the Lilly Heine top in a new light; you seem to have brought it to life. And you’ve balanced the colours so well, even your skin tone seems intentionally harmonised with the whole. I so enjoy this look!

  13. I love the dress. But I have to say, not everybody could wear it. The look you created around it is original but perfect.
    I like that.
    Great work, as usual πŸ™‚

  14. Holy wow!!! I’ve never seen pants like that before!!! They are totally cool and love how they look like they are frosted glass!!! (you know what I mean?!!) AND…that shirt is soooooooooo beautiful…what workmanship and is just so innovative! You look FABBBB, Susie!!!
