Defiant Florals

>> If flowers could speak, some of the ones from the past, current and forthcoming seasons' collections are saying "I don't want to be described as ditzy.  I'm not going to cower into a mass of pattern and print where you can't tell one flower from the other.  My petals will be defianty bold and my colours are anything but wishy washy so much so that my exact species can be identified without having to resort to calling us a generic 'floral' pattern.  If I along with other flowers repeat myself then so be it because that way you'll have more of a chance of remembering the exacting pattern that almost certainly evokes William Morris.  Even if I along with my peers, collectively resemble wallpaper, we're not the sort to grace wallflowers that blend into the background."

These bold blooms are growing and intertwining with help of Balenciaga Pre-Fall 2011-12, Stella McCartney Resort 2011 (a lot of it now on MyTheresa), my Manoush coat and Crockett & Jones slippers, the new selection of Liberty fabrics, Undercover's A/W 00-01 pieces at the Barbican and of course William Morris' Thames-inspired prints

  1. The last few pictures looks like it was inspired by Muse’s music video for Supermassive Black Hole.
P.S. I really like the trousers on the 4th picture down – I thinks its the shape and the black paneling that do it for me.

  2. What an inspiration you are to me my dear Susie. I have already had a post on a mix of three different flower pattern, but it is always fantastic, and never enough.
    Mil besos.

  5. When a post begins with ‘if flowers could speak…’ you know it’ll be a good-n. 🙂
Right then, now that i’ve dealt with the awkward “Well hello there…..” moment, I guess it’s time to get on with it. Before I start, thank you very much to those of you who have already introduced themselves to me, it’s great to know that there are people in the blogosphere that are on my wavelength (and let me tell you, i’m just as surprised as you are). NOW:
    THE SLOGAN-NED T-SHIRT.
Although, stupidly, it is very difficult to read the slogans written on these two t-shirts, the fact remains that they are slogan-ned. The most common use for one of these beauties is to scream such ridiculous- and almost universally misleading- statements such as ‘BABE’, ‘STUD’ or suchlike. However, occasionally I find one of these t-shirts which really make me laugh, or have a message that I would be only too glad to have plastered to my front. The t-shirt above actually belongs to my dad, but it’s so amusing to watch people decide whether it’s an ironic statement or an extreme political statement that I’m afraid i had to steal it. (Note: three further introduction bits dealt with: what I look like- minus a bit of my head-, where I live- Cornwall-, and my penchant for wearing clothes that are not my own).
The t-shirt below is worn by a friend of mine, and I believe that it says something like ‘Give Me A Kiss You Bastard’ in french…which might be a little offensive if you were french. However, seeing as I am not French, (another fact!) I think it’s just a nice top.

  6. KILLER! I just did a post about ghesquiere’s cozy cozy prefall how good is it?! and how good are the quilted pants?! so out of his comfort zone….. but INTO our comfort zone. I can see myself in those pants in front of a log fire, roast lamb etc…… 🙂 did you see the alsatian jumper? ooooohhhhhh

  7. what a lovely post, i adore william morris’ work, there is a small but great collection of his pieces in the british galleries at the victoria and albert museum, plus in an upcoming exhibition there i believe some more of his work will be on show.
    xx

  8. I love all of these, especially the Stella Mccartney ones (though I may have a bias because of her dad).
I like that these are very Turkish, very Ottoman. It’s a wonderful print that isn’t really utilized in clothing a lot.
