Booked In

>> Olympia Le-Tan is a colette nugget that I found out about a few seasons ago, whose first edition embroidered book bags and minaudieres (ickle ickle purses… probably smaller than a clutch) have been charming the world over with her homages to Hemingway, Salinger and Orwell.  The sort of funny but also stupidly decadent thing about her box clutches though is that if I ever had the moolah to buy one, I'd probably would find the actual first edition book to put it in, carrying it around as an individual book case and pointing out that whatever is embroidered on this box is what I'm reading at the moment – I might even open up the book whilst it's still inside the clutch and start reading it on the tube like that.  Sounds absurd, makes sense in my head.  It was particularly painful when I came across the Jack Kerouac 'On the Road' lunchbox case at the Ace Hotel Opening Ceremony store.  My heart and whatever is leftover from what was once a fairly bookwormish brain says yes.  My bank account says no (especially at the moment when Natwest handily blocked my card and pin…thanks, that has aided fashion week immensely…).

So to infinity and beyond with her latest collection 'It's Not The End of the World', which ties in her themes of travel literature and sci-fi fiction, travelling in general around the world which sees some of the bags being adorned with the 'Olympia' brand of travel in retrogading style and Paris-branded bags, as well as quite literally having the world at your fingertips with Earth-shaped minaudieres.  Again, I seem to be thinking that my putting 'travel ameneties' in one of those Olympia Air Transport circular bags would be a great decadent idea.  My brain is inflating at the thought of getting to that level of indulgence when a ¬£800+ bag would be great for storing moisteriser testers and wet wipes…

  6. I usually shy away from the “school bag” look, for some reason I wind up looking like a fashion dominatrix. But these are simply wonderful, the Paris one being my favorite.
    Great find Susie!

  8. I totally get what you mean to put the actual first edition of the book in a mirroring box clutch. I would do that, IF I have the moolah. lol I really like the globe bag, though i have no idea how practical it is unless it’s less then 5″ in diameter, which then makes it a total accessory rather then a carry ‘all’ bag. Still, cute.

  9. So desirable. I want to send her a list of my favourite titles for some special commissions. Because I totally have that kind of money! One day… Lovely way to wear your literary heart on your sleeve/arm.
