Don’t Stop Believin’

It's ear-ly morning and the SEEEEERIOUS blog posts will come later when I'm talking about all things Pitti and I screech and yeep over Haider Ackermann and Jil Sander's forthcoming events…

First things first though… I had a bit of a blubby moment on the bus.  I really should have read the Nowness interview with friend and designer Anthony Vaccarello at home and NOT the busy 43 busy route.  As soon as I caught the sentence where he talks about me and describes me as "best friend and the first English person who believed in my work…" I got a bit tear-jerked because a) I do miss Anthony who is based in Paris a lot and b) I never thought I'd be the FIRST to believe in anything, nevermind a designer who I can FEEEEEL in my bones will do exceptionally well…

It's no secret that I have tracked Anthony's work from the time he won his prize in Hyeres and through our freakishly random meeting in Denton, in Texas (thanks to the Arts of Fashion antics…), it's been this growing friendship of emails, short trips here and there, Eurostar treks and Skype.

And I'm tripping and repeating myself… don't let me be THAT old fogey that starts telling the story OVER and over again… I still have plenty of years in me yet to go down that confused state of mind.

Suffice to say, I'm having my blubby moment here because when people ask me what has been the best moment of the blog and I always give my very cheesy answer and say that meeting friends like Anthony have been the most rewarding part of the blog (our paths wouldn't have crossed were it not for the blog…).  I may not do his work justice and I may not that be that dark yet vulnerable woman that Anthony envisions as his muse but that is of course the fate of an ardent admirer who has bundles of enthusiasm but none of the requisite grace…

His rise has been dotted by landmarks that include this Nowness interview as well as his A/W 10-11 collection being stocked in Browns for next season.  On that Browns note, I may as well try and be useful and non-blubby and finish up with a heads-up about the Browns: 40 Years of Fashion Innovation book that is available online now – if you didn't catch the 40th anniversary exhibition in Soho, London (errr… that would be most of you perhaps?) then the book encapsulates all the images that were on display.  Photographer Paolo Roversi shot 40 portraits – everyone from Gareth Pugh to Marc Jacobs to Mrs B herself wearing collections that have defined Browns' 40 year pioneering retail history.  Here are a few of my favourite portraits from the book but being a text-hound, I'm eager to read the first person pieces by the participants of the shoot on subjects like: Taste, Future, Family, Instinct, Tradition, Seduction, Community and London…

  1. That Anthony Vaccarello is definitely going places. Bones never lie. And nothing wrong with telling a good story many times. I always enjoy a good tale, especially if it comes from personal experience. Rock that dress and rock those friendships.

  2. I’m loving the Browns book, got my copy last week! That’s def something I’ll be keeping for grandchildren (err…), I hope Browns lasts that long 🙂 Oh and Glee finale was TOTALLY AMAZEBALLS. I laughed, I cried, I sang my heart out. I can’t wait for the next season!! I don’t know what I’m going to do without my daily dose of Sue Sylvester :'(

  3. That is so sweet! (what he said about you) And I’m sure its quite true! Love his work and am quite happy to know that it will continue to be written about on the blog. That book seems lovely and quite interesting as when you think about it, it is rather like one giant ad, but I don’t think that takes away from the artistic quality in the slightest.

  4. The Carla Sozzani and Azzedine Alaia portrait is beautiful.
I’m also loving the dress you’re wearing. It reminds me of an Emilio Pucci gown I had seen but can’t remember which collection.
