Pre-Ash

>> I'm currently waiting in Bangkok to go to Sydney for a week of RAFW madness as well as a week of pictures where you'll see me somewhere other than that wretched balcony.  My co-conspirator in the cop-out outfit posting is of course Street Peeper Phil who will also be in Sydney for the week.  When I got to New York two weeks ago, he put me straight to "work" (I use that word rather loosely…I wasn't paid if you must know…) and we set about snapping some pics around the Meatpacking with the help of a lot of Helmut Lang S/S 10 pieces from the nearby Meatpacking store and in turn, exploit the streetstyle cliches that we know and love (cobbled stones, bicycles, graffiti background… oh and of course, some helpful Bloggerisms…).  This is of course a simpler side to my style because a) I had no clothes/shoes with me and b) with Helmut Lang clothes, even the stuff not designed by the man himself, it mostly does the talking by themselves.  The full feature is on his site but I thought I'd repost to make a correction about the first outfit… the necklace is by Sou Brette, not Estelle Deve… and also to shamelessly do a filler post as I won't be online for another ten hours.

I might add that this was before the trip got tainted by volcano ash and due to my state of landing excitement, frankly I wasn't ashamed to happily be snapped in front of some slightly contrived New York backdrops also happen to suit the clean lines of the clothes…

  1. this is almost a flash forward for me, of the evolution of your style. You always look spectacular Susie. You are really such an inspiration to me.

  2. These are all beautiful. Love the first look the best. Although the trouser look is a close second. You are miraculous at piecing clothing together. And those sunglasses!!!
    xoxo

  3. Rabidly obsessed with Helmut Lang (if only I could afford it)… since you’re a fan you’ll enjoy the Friedrich Gray runway at RAFW, I feel that Ben’s label is Australia’s answer to Helmut Lang.

  4. Wow! I don’t consider myself much of a minimalist but I do have a soft spot for Helmut Lang, and these are wonderful pics with super styling.

  5. It always cracks me up when you call your outfits filler posts b/c I love them so much…I find clothes on bloggers’ backs more inspiring than in showrooms…although your articles are always quite informative as well. 🙂

  6. I’m loving the first, second and third outfits. Call it my blazer obsession and love of all things drapey, classic and kind of androgynous. Your blog is absolutely brilliant. I have thought so for many years!
Anyway – I was just wondering whether you are coming down to Melbourne as part of your trip Down Under? Fingers crossed…I would flip over and die if I could see you.

  7. I always have problems with doing stuff where there is no sort of exchange, but I suppose getting to wear pretty designer clothes in pics is payment enough.

  8. How long are you going to be in Sydney for?
That’s so exciting! The weather should be fine this week so have a marvellous time! 🙂
If you want any foodie suggestions too, there is nothing much around the passenger terminal – but there are many recommendable places in Surry hills and Darlinghurst… and be sure to visit Adriano Zumbo in balmain if you have a sugar craving. Vintage is good in the smaller streets off oxford street… great in the other direction. Nice boutiques to peruse in Paddington, Woollahra and the Strand arcade in the CBD.
    enjoy 🙂

  9. M: Thanks for all the tips… I went to Surry Hills for some grub today… lovely place to hang out….
I’ll definitely explore Oxford Street more before I leave…
