Not So Complex

I'm not normally a fan of the "many shots of the same outfit" formula.  Only because there's not a lot of variation to a background that comprises of B&Q splintered wood, dodgy railings and err‚Ķ one part of the London Met Uni that SOMETIMES like to look onto the balcony bemusedly and fleety/flight, morphing poses don't come naturally to me like it does to others.

However, I'm making exceptions with this particular Complex Geometries sheer hoodie from their forthcoming A/W 10-11 collection"In Search of Truth".  It's very easy to get into the frame of mind where you want to jump into Kate-Bush-interpretive-dance mode in the middle of a busy Regent's Park when you a) have a bit of sun to help you along and b) there's a mass of sheer fabric that filters said light.  Give me a fairly loud Air soundtrack and both myself and photographer Steve would have returned some very expressive body movements aided by this hoodie and maybe a lopped off tree branch, probably much to the bemusement of nearby rugby players.

Instead though, I gingerly and very half-heartedly moved my arms a bit, wafted the fabric about as the Complex Geometries piece did all the work.  This was THE piece I honed in on when I saw the collection in New York.  Sheer. Grey.  Oversized.  Malleable.  A hoodie that will play with me and be my new best friend.  Never thought I would say that about a hoodie.  That said, it functions as a top in itself as well with the hood down, slipping and sliding with its long long sleeves and fluid shape.

Of course, fluidity is what Complex Geometries do with many of their garments hence the diverse blogger lovin' for this Montreal-based label (KoS and Childhood Flames are fans…).  Their clothes can be plied and played around with to different effects…  in my case, it results in nearly-launching-into-interpretive-dance-move…but not quite… damn English reserve.

(With Topshop sandals and Helmut Lang dress… wow… just THREE items in total… that MAY be an outfit first…)

**EDIT** ARGH – my brain is FRAZZLED with overload and I CAN'T QUITE BELIEeeeeeeve I've made a gaff as bad as this – so firstly apologies to Clayton and Adam from complexGEOMETRIES as opposed to Geometrics which I said thrice in this post.  I did link to the right site and those in the know are of course already familiar with the name.  DON'T ASK ME WHY I even typed it.  Because in my head, I was saying Complex Geometries yet it came out as a "c" when I came to type "e" – my hands sometimes autotype in a way that even I can't control….

No, actually, it's just the brain frazzling from work overload…. SORRY SORRY SORRY!

  5. Definitely a fan of the sheer hoodie, it looks marvelous; a little bit on the fence about those shoes though. You do have some great poses!

  6. This is stunning. Love the way it hangs on the model and the soft flowing fabric makes it look pretty rather than baggy and horrible. Sucha cool hoody.

  7. For all the talk about poses and movement, I love the last photo most of all 🙂
I must say, what keeps me reading your blog daily for at least a few years now isn’t your ability to pose for the camera, but that you are showing us the clothes more so than yourself. I can see rail thin girls flailing in all my mags, but I read blogs to get a unique perspective on style not found elsewhere. So, thanks for remaining just that!
Also, Complex Geometries is wonderful, and so is this hoodie! I’m dying to actually purchase something from the label. Maybe this fall will be the time to do so.

  8. Oversized and sheer are two words I truly love when it comes to tops. This is so much more amazing with a hood. I love it! (I adore the shoes). <3

  9. I just stumbled onto this blog from style.com’s piece on bloggers, and I have to say I am in love! You have such a fresh, fun point of view and your joy for clothes comes through loud and clear.
I am wondering if you know the price for this gorgeous hoodie when it becomes available? I love it, and I think I may need to start saving now. 🙂

  10. Charlotte: Welcome to the blog…. the hoodie isn’t going to be out until August I think as it’s a A/W10-11 piece… email the Complex guys directly for pricing as they will have an e-store where the pieces go up… I think it’s around the USD250 mark but I could be wrong!

  11. its not complex geometrics but complex geometries. if you are going to write about it get the name right!

  12. Sarah: I’m SO SO SO sorry – apologies to everyone – I did get the name wrong and I’m finding it so weird because in my HEAD – I’m SAYING ComplexGeometries yet I’m typing Complex Geometrics – it’s SO bizarre…. I think I just autotype the word because I tend to use Geometrics as the plural of Geometry – in fact, I’ve never used Geometries in speech…. actually, is there in fact a difference? Hmmm… must look into that…. ARGH so ANNOYED as I’ve been doing that a lot with other things as well… suffice to say I’ve corrected it all… and I’m UTTERLY sorry!
