Moving on Up

It's THAT kind of a day when a bit of M People motivation is perfectly apt.  I'm off to Paris later for a a teensy tiny trip so I'm rush rush rushing.  I couldn't possibly leave the door however without getting all egg-cited over Angie Johnson aka I Heart Norwegian Wood and her latest developments.  She's picked up PR representation in London which means that at a press day, I'll actually be able to finger her clothes thoroughly which is a big deal considering my relationship with I Heart Norwegian Wood has mostly been a non-physical, virtual one.  I knew we couldn't keep it chaste for long though given that I Heart Norwegian Wood has been given platforms such as Topshop's Edit selection (and will do so again, I believe…).

DSC_1770 So this is the first time really that I'm posting about Angie as a designer, all grown-up, with a pretty comprehensive collection as opposed to a set of accessories (harnesses, cages, necklaces and leggings…).  The signs were there when she made me a beautiful gingham spandex (I'm still relishing in the joys of this material…) scuba dress and also sent me some of the fabric samples that she is feeling for spring (this may have changed erstwhile…) which made me even more excited that she was taking the next step towards designing clothes and inching more and more out of the comfort zone of statement-accessories.  It's going to be a wee bit confusing as she has also got further spring summer drops to hit her Etsy store but given she has PR representation now in London, we have here her A/W 10-11 collection anyhow…

I'm getting a heavy Arts and Crafts Movement vibe from it all… textural, earthy, autumnal and most importantly for me; eclectic.  It's of course the most cohesive body of work we've seen from Angie but of course broken down, there are of course plenty of Etsy fodder for the peeps who stand by her as her fans.  She may have to change her tagline though from "Harnesses, cage skirts, fringe, leggings, specialness" to just well erm…. "specialness"…. ok, it's a bit blunt and will need a rethink as I just realised it's reminding me too much of that self-proclaimed "special one"

Well…it's "special" to say the least and I'll be looking forward to doing some fabric fingering tomorrow when I get back from a night out in Pareeeee…

  1. yay i love Angie’s stuff so much! i have the leggings in the 6th picture, but hopefully will be adding to my norwegian wood collection eventually with some of these beautiful new designs. so pleased for her!

  2. I love that last caged bolero/jacket/thing. It’s a very simple idea, but she’s carried it off wonderfully, and that shade of grey looks so velvety. She’s come such a long way since I first heard of her. I would love to own one of her pieces eventually.

  3. oh amazing! such beautiful things i don’t even know where to begin… i’m still deciding what to order from her (this has quite literally been going on for months, ridiculous, my indecision will be the end of me) and hope that these brilliant new developments don’t put an end to my plans! still, on a more serious note, so delightful to see her doing well.

  4. Faaantastic! I have to say – I love this collection!! I am also Angie’s (Norwegian Wood’s) studio mate so I have the privilege of seeing her creations take form. I get to see all the exciting fabrics, trims and bobbles she brings in after a shopping adventure and I get to see her turn them into objects of beauty to adorn our bodies.
I am so proud to see Angie grow and develop her talent and skills. This is a collection to be proud of and I for one can’t wait to get my grubby little hands on some of these beauties!

  5. That last loopy-sleeve situation is incredible. So glad to see a talented designer from etsy getting some amazing opportunities & press. Cheers!

  6. To put it as simply as possible, I would not, COULD not, have pushed myself this hard without you and your blog Susie. I’ve received incredible support from all over the blogosphere and it makes me all teary eyed and corny just thinking about it. Sounds crazy, but it’s true. I’m just getting started though… at least that’s the plan! No turning back now 😉

  8. As the iPhone continues to play second fiddle to an exploding Android mobile operating system it’s worth looking at the top Android apps. Developers are flocking to Android in droves and porting over apps left and right.
