"I'm sick of…" is a statement I'm getting to be quite puzzled by. It usually precedes trend-i/y items such as wet-look leggings/biker jackets/studs etc etc you get the picture. My beef with said statement is that there is this cycle which goes through the motions of people lusting after something with great gusto and then suddenly because something is propelled into that murky area called the 'mainstream', we're all 'sick' of it. I'm no saint as I too am a guilty party of declaring such fashion malaise, but from now on I'm going to be checking myself. It's a resolution to curb myself from saying that and these; "This is a nightmare…" and "like" as a discourse particle.
Because, really, when I think about it, I'm not SICK of it… well not to the point where I'm actually physically ill. If I loved it once, there's got to be something in me that will love it always. In this case, the 'it' refers to sequins, lace and all things sheer, three things which Costume Dept S/S 10 (their website is under construction but I *think* their eshop is still up) has touted in their apparel and leggings. These things might be a distant memory and trod in the mud to those that are fully immersed into the S/S 10 collections but I won't write them off just yet especially when they have served me so well for the past two years or so (with sequins and lace, even longer than that… memory of a certain gold sequin boob tube circa 2000 comes to mind). So you might yawn and nod off to sleep because nothing 'fresh' is being proposed but on a day-to-day wardrobe basis, these things will somehow sneak in, along with the pastels, a hint of gingham and raw-edged flapping fabric.
Ooh, the piccys are great!! I love your blog btw, plz ceck out mine and tell me what you think 🙂 U are very true though, i get what u mean completely. It’s like things u see and say “Oh, that’s awful!” but when its in fahion u love it LOL
OMG THE SHEER BOW SKIRT! Aaah I need! Badly! So badly, that I can’t even make proper sentences any more *flails*
Yeah, I know what you mean, but over the years (yes, seeing as I’m so mature) I think I’ve gradually gotten all the crazy experimenting out of the way so now, if I love something enough to buy it, chances are I’ll love it forever. Hmm, is that a round-a-bout way of saying I’m boring now?
Anyway, lovin’ the pics!
the tights on the top are amazing!!!!!!!
love this post!

I recognize the use of “i’m sick of/it’s wearing me out’please not again”-vocabulary coming from my mouth. Lace, sequins, studs, it sometimes get to much to handle. But stll, they work well, in small quantities.
love love love.
all true also.
I still love studs/lace/sheer/sequins!

The very bottom left photograph is so beautiful to me. It’s of course not wearable really as its basically promoting nudity but god that picture is so beautiful.
I appreciate your sentiments on “im sick of” stuff, we are all guilty of it.
Lace is classic, it has to be.
Totally know where you are coming from I am sick of the blazer which i have enjoyed wearing for years now it has become mainstream it is a real shame but there you go time for something new.
I’ve been guilty of using the “I’m sick of” phrase. I’ll admit it. Specially with sequins and lace. But, like all things fashionable… I’m not sick of IT, I’m sick of seeing one person with EVERYTHING LACE or EVERYTHING sequins. One thing is to add “trendy” pieces to your wardrobe, but when it goes on a more commercial level, we end up with people covered to their toes in lace.
But hey! I still love it! hahaha
seriously, amen to that! is it at the point though where the style isn’t a “trend” anymore? most people kind of don’t get the hint where the trend is over and i think that’s when i realllyyy become sick of it.
You are right. After seeing a trend for a while it start to get boring or at least you need to see something else.
Love the lace proposal.

How weird is it that I’m most intrigued by the mens pieces? I’d love to wear both the sheer and lace hoodie myself, of course, but the real question is how do I convince my boy to do it……

Everything you’ve just said rings so true- I’m completely sick of my cardigans, but I can’t stop wearing them! I’m, like, totes with you on curbing my use of “like” as well. Hah.
Wow awesome clothes! Totally love, totally wanted!<3

Give me sequins, sheer, and studs, but not lace. I like lace and I have always liked it but I never really liked it. I just liked it. And yes, I did get “sick” of it because seeing it everywhere just made it, well, boring! Just so long as you’re not condenming people for wearing it I don’t see what’s so bad about getting “sick” of something. I understand your point, and it is a good one, but I also think that its only natural to get “sick” of something after a while. Of course, what with teh internets and all, this is happening at a much faster pace than ever before, which is not necessarily a good thing. But I stand by my “sickness” of lace.
Yours is the fashion blog that makes me think, Susie. LOVE.

i have to admit i’m feeling like i’m in a bit of fashion purgatory as of late.
The woman on the bottom right, wearing some sort of giant bow at the hips & some sort of giant necklace is a complete genius. I love her & everything about her outfit. Fabulous! http://www.nickiefrye.etsy.com
also guilty of the sickness…trends can become sickening…
i think the problem arises when we are more in lust with what the item represents (both aesthetically and socially) than what the item actually is.
the lust, i think, is deeper than the look (be it sequins, lace or whatever) and is, in fact, a desire to claim and project a particular style and persona. it becomes repulsive when the trend spreads and we see that which we thought made us distinctive adopted and adored by the masses.
I agree with your post.hahaha thanks for the read I’ve enjoyed it.
OMG! These leggings are solely FABULOUS just like this POST!!!:)

i LOVE those lace-up-the-side leggings!
you make a really good point here – well said. i think it’s hard not to get all caught up in the lust and frenzy when a ‘new’ trend gets full-court press, but i think part of what i think constitutes coming into one’s own style has to do with knowing what you really really like, trendy or not, and incorporating it season to season into your (well-edited) wardrobe. 🙂
Netting is sooo popular at the moment
Oh, I could never get sick of sequins!
Hot collage. Love the sheer bow skirt…
