Antwerp Vintage Trail

Ok, so I officially sucked at the treasure hunt trail in Antwerp over the weekend, and I'll happily wear that dunce cap for a while until I redeem myself on a Hampstead Heath orienteering course.  Still the trip was not entirely without gain as once we had got the official treasure hunt out of the way, we were free to steer our own course…and naturally due to lack of funding I went down a vintage path. Now I know I'm missing some obvious addresses… Episode, FCS etc but I'm fairly happy with our chosen route…

Antwerpvint
My Ohm, Vrijdagmarkt 14 – I suddenly had a panic attack over the weekend that I had lost my vintage leather flight cap in a cab somewhere in New York and was contemplating buying another one here at My Ohm.  I was fearing needlessly as the cap was safe and sound at home squashed next to the TV.

Jutka & Riska, Nationalestraat 87 – This is one of my favourite stores in Antwerp.  Its selection of vintage is always really really spot-on and it mixes it up with newer pieces too with the prices not being too crazy.  On this occasion, I found Sonia Rykiel, Thierry Mugler, Yohji Yamamoto, Comme des Garcons, Moschino… I almost bought this black Sonia Rykiel jacket AND the Thierry Mugler white nipped in jacket but decided I had been on too much of a jacket binge lately.

Vintage by the Kilo on Nationalestraat – I only really found the sign "Sussies Stocksale" mildly amusing.  It's worth a rummage for old vintage nighties though.

Belchique, Kloosterstraat 177 – This is another shop that buys well and is more of a designer consignment store.  Again, I nearly got swayed by another statement jacket with a YSL pleated tux but instead I got the Celine cardi below.

The only place not depicted here is the Think Twice (Meir Lange Klarenstraat 21), which is where I found my affinity with… ridiculous trousers.  So I have never had much luck with sensible tailored trousers and instead I revel in ludicrous ones with elasticated waistbands (all the better to facilitate mahussive dinners…)… like these black balloon ones with lace frills at the bottom.  I've worn them with a Dries-jacket half-on style…which the SS/10 show perfected… and I err…haven't.

Or these polka dot ones which aren't quite so ridiculous but still could well be mistaken for being pyjama pants.  Both were bought for EUR8 each from Think Twice which would have been cheeeeaaap had the pound not decided to be all weak and feeble.

From Belchique, I bought a vintage Celine cardigan that is about as far away from Philo-era Celine (did you heart those leather tees as much as I did?) as you can get but I'm a sucker for a good chain print and some nice buttons…

  1. Love Your Luella shoes
& Love your style!!! but in london we are in trashy weather of pure heavy clouds so Im not risking those amazing yellow shoes 😉
btw early today bought another necklace from this amazing store which I want to share the link with you: http://www.mercedessalazar.com/new_en/
    amazingg, and also love it

  2. Nice stores! Quick spelling remark: it’s Vrijdagmarkt, not Vrÿdagmarkt… When you write it by hand, it looks like a ÿ, but it’s basically just an I and a J stuck together.
Sorry, I’m a Dutch spelling addict.

  3. hello,susie
    you’re so stylish<3
    i love your style xxx
im come from hk.nice to meet you

  4. Jutka & Riska make me drool, I’ve left my heart there so many times. But then further down the street in the kilo shop I can spread my wings and use my super scanner vision to rummage the piles, which always make me wanna do a stage-dive into them, if they weren’t that smelly. The Magritte exhibition is in Brussels, no? Will be going that way soon… Ah, pleasures of the flesh……

  5. You didn’t waste your time this last saturday afternoon. I’ll keep the addresses in mind, thanks! So you have already stolen Steve’s tee…

  6. Yay for elastic in the waist! I wish more places would do that for stylish pants here in the US. Your black pants are great!
Very cute and I like the way you are putting the photos on your blog now.

  7. I love both of these outfits, but the standout item for me is definitely that pair of amazingly great yellow shoes.

  8. Oh my god, that blue outfit…it looks like you’re wearing the ocean :)Lovely, lovely, lovely

  9. That first outfit in mindblowingly AWESOME!
I’m definitely writing these addresses down! I don’t think I’ve been to a couple of them *_*. I love that you did this post, yay for second hand shopping trips in Antwerp!

  10. i love this orange one shouldered business with fluffy pants! i have some sort of loose lace lingerie shorts that i have to layer up and photograph soon. all those pics make me long to travel! i need a lot of things right now. need. need. need!

  11. Wow that orange looks incredible on you. I love the whole outfit! Just realised I haven’t commented here in ages. Just wanted to say hi and to let you know I’m still reading everyday! xxx

  12. the first look made me do a double take! not keen on the trouser frills but the orange top is gorgeous, and a stunning colour. Without the frills I think it looks great, the shoes of course are lovely! 🙂 Your hair looks really nice in a pony!

  15. Those black pants and that Celine cardigan are AMAZING. You styled both so well! I cannot get over those pants.

  16. I adore your yellow shoes. I really have to travel to Antwerp again. Haven’t been there fora while now. Thanks for the great tips.

  17. I love you in orange Susie. It’s a really hard colour to wear but it really suits you!
P.S I have the croc teeth too. Right over my vjay-jay. I couldn’t resist.

  18. I’m a sucker for gold chain too and think the Celine cardi is amazing. I’d already fallen in love with Belchique before I got to your cardi bit from the photos.

  19. I like your Luella shoes and pants! (: But I’m quite short so I can’t really work these kind of pants. Any tips? (:

  20. ^I don’t think height should be a factor…. I would perhaps just keep the top quite fitted or tight and let the volume do the talking at the bottom? Heels might help too…

  21. Well! To begin with, I love all the color!! You’ve paired everything so beautifully. Nice work =)

  22. I want that picture of Michael Jackson, he was at his finest at that time.
Also adore those colour blocking outfits and the pattern mixed ones!

  23. last season was floral trews, next is officially polkadots!! since seeing the luella show i added them to the mental wishlist and here you are in such an amazing pair, what great inspiration!

  26. Freight trains are sometimes illegally boarded by passengers who do not wish to pay money, or do not have the money to travel by ordinary means. This is referred to as “freighthopping” and is considered by some communities[who?] to be a viable form of transport. A common way of boarding the train illegally is by sneaking into a train yard and stowing away in an unattended boxcar; a more dangerous practice is trying to catch a train “on the fly”, that is, as it is moving, leading to occasional fatalities. Railroads treat it as trespassing and may prosecute it as such.
No serious injuries were reported among the train’s 431 passengers and eight crew members, but one Via employee reportedly sustained a cut above the eye.
“But when the train braked really hard and stopped I got scared. I am just glad the train didn’t derail and that I am safe and sound.”
    Main article: Inter-city rail
Electric traction offers a lower cost per mile of train operation but at a higher initial cost, which can only be justified on high traffic lines. Since the cost per mile of construction is much higher, electric traction is less viable for long-distance lines with the exception of long-distance high speed lines. Electric trains receive their current via overhead lines or through a third rail electric system.
