>> I know the shoe fest is a bit tiresome but I did want to make a reMARK about these Marc Jacobs shoes at the show as Katie Grand made a comment about them saying, "This is why I wear flats!".  Seeking out interesting flats that don't just start and end with brogues and ballet pumps has been a bit of a mission of mine ever since my unfortunate clutz attack of a fall last season (for those that asked, the ankle is sort of mended but still twinges a bit sometimes….must get it checked out…).  So yes I was all-hailing Mr Jacobs for the flat-attack, until I saw the dreaded big toe thong.  Try as I might but the damn thing just makes my feet irritated, blister or bleed.  Once again though, Melissa have come up with a slightly questionable but most definitely tempting option in collaboration with Vivienne Westwood again.  These were part of the Red Label show but will be available as early as mid-November for ¬£120. They're a tamed version of Westwood's original Rocking Horse shoe shape with detachable wings if you don't happen to feel like channelling Hermes, the messenger god. Whilst not strictly speaking completely flat, they are at one solid level, like creepers so I'm guessing they're equally as comfy.  Like I said though, I'm pondering them until I see them in the flesh.

  1. To be honest I haven’t been too excited about Melissa / Westwood co-operation so far – but those magenta Hermes sandals are just about to change my opinion about this issue…

  2. No no. Not impressed at all. I quite like the Anglomania line…but this looks like bad 1st year design school scrap mixed with the jewelry you get out of the 10p vendos.

  3. You’ve STILL not got it checked out? Right, my ninjas are coming round tonight to steal your heels until you do then.
Also, I am now utterly obsessed with the idea of those pearly queen boxing boots. The prospect of my new coat is the only thing distracting me from them right now. WANT.

  4. Shoe fests are never tiresome! Well unless it’s a croc fest of something, now that might get old..
Love the Marc Jacobs ones! So chic.
Not quite so sure about the ankle detail on the Westwood for Melissa ones, but the pueple colour is rather fabulous, and the black marble effect’s nice too.

  5. Like I said, it’s a question mark until I see them and try them on… never say never and all that!
The MJ ones are far more refined but damnit, there’s that bloody toe thong!

  6. Hum, while I like the rocking horse look (have a pair myself), a couple things don’t feel right with these. One is the wing thing sticking out, I can see that getting caught in things, scratching people. Also are they plastic or rubber? My experience with that is feel sweat, no fun. And while rocking horse shoes are cool, they are a little unstable because the weight at the back of your foot isn’t supported. One has to have decent balance and steady ankles.
I like the design of these (minus the wing thing). Wish they were in a different material though.

  7. I actually really like them! Not really in the purple, but in the marbley colour. Like someone else said, I’d probably prefer them not to be rubber though. They’d look better in leather or even that faux-velvet they’ve used before. I love the shape of them – that rocking horse style is just gorgeous. It’s my aim to own a pair of shoes in that style. Maybe one day…
And Susie, I too have been searching for YEARS to find interesting flat shoes. I have almost given up hope to be honest.

  8. I saw these on hervia a week or so ago, I am torn, I like the original rocking horse shoes and these are a cheaper easyer to get hold of substitute, but the wing and big wedge of plastic is kind of ugly.

  9. Omg. Awesomely enough, Nike, the goddess of triumph also has wings and is occasionally portrayed with the wings on her feet/ankles. I’m going to go ahead and say this means something; IT’S A TRUIMPH FOR FLATS, I SAY!
I need awesome flats for the exact same reason too. I don’t dare to get my feet checked out just because I’m so afraid the doctor will forbid from wearing heels! …My fall has been four years ago and I still have occasional bursts of pain. I NEED these to be comfy & awesome. Though I think I might love the original rocking horse shoes more what with them being made out of material in which your skin will be able to BREATHE.

  10. Thank you for the heads up! I am so there for the Westwood shoes, the pink ones stole my heart. I love the rocking horse style (very Lolita inspired if I’m not mistaken), they are comfier than you’d expect and anything that adds height to a woman without the pain of walking around in heels is always a plus in my book!

  11. I love the shape but rubber shoes can’t be too pleasant or comfortable to walk in…

  12. Ha, just saw these at their booth at Coterie, and couldn’t decide myself whether I liked them or not. I quite like the idea but they look a little clunky in real life with the wings looking a little bit too much like a plastic toy. Still, they had plenty of great new flat options from the Vivienne Westwood/Melissa collection, including an adorable pair of rain booties with plastic bows on them, which I think I will be going for.
