Being Shot by Billy the Kidd

>> Damn my ancestry and parents for not giving me a name as pun-tastic and workable as Brooklyn-based photographer Billy Kidd.  "I was Shot by Billy Kidd" headlines his website and his blog and rightly so because it makes complete wholehearted sense.  The Kidd dropped me an email and attached some geometric madness beauty shots that caught my eye immediately.  These were originally published in LA'G online magazine and feature some Fred Butler/Franc Fernandez-esque custom-made triangular headpieces that intensely and very purposefully clash with the make-up.  I'm intrigued by the texture used on the facets of the shapes, as they resemble a cross between fibrous wood and grainy colouring in pencils.  I feel a Caran D'Ache urge coming over me… (still waiting for my grandma to drop me the 20 year special edition Lanvin 120 colour set…)

  1. Oh gosh these remind me that I must embrace more colour into my life. I saw someone today wearing red and turquoise and I thought yes!
I’m such a black and white cat I need Billy to shoot me!

  2. I LOVE that pencil set! A little expensive, but still, nice box and presentation. They will be an heirloom you can pass on. My kids loved my caran d’ashe pencils!

  3. do you ever feel that you don’t receive as many comments because you aren’t as pretty/sultry looking as say fashiontoast or lulu, and because people think that your blog is coming to sound pretentious..?
thought I’d put it out there.

  4. All Women Stalker: Haha…. sadly Susie Bubble isn’t my birth name…. think the Lau ancestors would have something to say about that….
Sister Wolf: I saw it going round as it was sent as a press gift to super high editors….it’s booooootiful….
Connie: I don’t even know WHERE to begin with that comment…

  5. To answer Connie: Susie publishes 3 posts a day. The comments are spread out.
I for one think she’s very pretty and completely down-to-earth, but not just that–she’s a total genius and an original.

  6. actual artwork.
there have been some really clever colour choices made in these shots & i adore that.

  7. Sister Wolf: Lulu’s another blogger who’s actually a great deal of fun to read – just not sure why Connie feels the need to compare fash bloggers, we can like both or all three blogs equally, just not sure why people keep feeling the need to pull them down. It’s apples and oranges, really.
And I echo Annie Spandex above.

  8. Love it. I appreciate ART more now looking at the headpieces.
Connie: We all love Susie’s blog, some of us who knows or have met her in person….she’s lovely, just as the same person on the blog. If you don’t like it well dont bother coming back to Susie’s blog

  9. also, i meant to comment on those head pieces. I love the colours and the geometry, and the photoshoot is just beautiful..
    xx-LJ from SOS!

  10. ups for Connie: ewww u stink! who cares about comments when she has the most inspirational and avant-guard blog on the web!
comparing susie too Rumi?? please ? it’s so not the same type of blog… it’s a bit more grown up.

  11. I’ve always found Susie a breath of fresh air in the sea of pretentious, uptight, people around fashion. (no offense fashionista’s) She always has fun, keeps her feet on the ground, and searches for beauty.

  12. hmm sus I’ve been following your blog for a century and its gotten me through Univerity – I dont care what Connie has to say – but without her comment I wouldnt be writing to say I adore you, your fashion in-sight … and lets be honest, at the end of the day designers, magazines, and fashion bloggers alike know the name “susie bubble” not “conie whatever”.

  13. Susie came to my uni to give a lecture and I can say first-hand she is so down to earth, pretty and stylish! She could not have been more friendly either and it really inspired me and my friends lots. The downside to this industry is that in reality there are lots of people who aren’t very pleasant, but seeing Susie really gave us a glimmer of hope that not everyone in fashion is mean!!

  14. who is connie? i thought we’ve had enough of this comparative blogging nonsense.
People like connie bring to mind the kind of delusional thinking put forth by
    cult religion leaders.

  15. 1. Full of pretense or pretension.
    2. Characterized by assumption of dignity or importance.
    3. Making an exaggerated outward show; ostentatious.
Pretentious is just like a swear word these days, people say it to cause offense without even knowing what it means…
    Read a book.

  16. Susie, thank you so much for posting this! I read your blog all the time and to have my work showcased makes me so pleased! Just to give everyone a heads up, it’s really made all out of hair. No forms are used for the structure just fake hair, glue and hours upon hours of work

  17. The Fred & Franc headpieces are unbelievable! Great work by Billy Kidd! Pics 1 & 5 are my favourites because of the contrast of the ‘hard’ headpieces & soft tulle…exquisite!

  18. I know Billy (have worked with him in the past) and it’s really great to see him getting so much recognition, he’s a talented fellow. There aren’t too many people that come out of the PHX and really make it… I have a feeling he will πŸ™‚

  19. To choose the right perfume for one woman isnβ€šΓ„Γ΄t so easy and quickly. There are a lot of rules you have to observe. Women are so different one another that you have to realize some things. You have to pay attention for her personality and which flavor is best for her. There are thousands of variously fragrances and if you want to select the perfect scent, it can take up your time.

  22. Many advocates of nuclear Power
plants have the cart before the horse. We must solve the problems posed by technology before making a large-scale technology. I am in favor of devoting excessive resources to solve problems first. Proposed extensive use of a drug, medical device or an aircraft without adequate safety tests?
