Finally!

>>Some of you may have already noticed that I've overhauled the blog design-wise.  Whilst I was dearly attached to the powder pink and green and the bright yellow mantua, it has been three years and to be honest, this has been plaguing my mind for a while now!  Hopefully nobody is too shocked and I haven't gone for an overly ker-razy design. There'll be tweaks throughout this week so bear with me…

I hesitated about putting my mug in the banner but Aurore de la Morinerie's wonderful quick brushstroked illustration of me sort of fits the bill…. she captured me pondering things as I do on this blog.  Anyway, blah blah blah…it's all symbolic… couldn't find a better image without copyright issues etc etc etc…

You'll notice that this main column is also a bit wider as I've always found the old template a bit restrictive and seeing as most of my pics are 1000 px wide, why have them pinched and squeezed at half that size?  Apologies that all previous posts will seem a bit small and lost in this wider space but going forward, it should all look slightly better…

  1. Oh I like the new look, a revamp is always good for the soul as well as just for the heck of it. Well done on your three years.

  2. oh i miss old stylebubble already. wish my favourite bloggers didnt all feel the need to make their blogs feel new and shiny. i prefer old and stonky….

  3. ^It’s not that I felt FORCED to do it…it’s been pissing me off for AAAAAAAAAAAGES…. for instance, I don’t even like that shade of green anymore… and the boobs of that mantua figure… pissed me off daily (pertent reminder of what I don’t have? )
This isn’t all that new or shiny to me… definitely not hi-tech either as it took me about a day to do it…
Hopefully Tanya, you’ll grow to like it…; )

  4. I think it looks lovely! I’m not even a long time reader and could tell it needed sprucing up. Now you need a new “Follow Susie Bubble on Twitter” button to match!

  5. I like it too, it’s good to update every so often (though I tend to leave it months, rather than years). Anyways, I like the lighter colour-scheme of it all. Will be great to see larger photos as well.

  6. Oh I like it! chic and simple. reminds me of my other fav site -kingdom of style.
You’ve even managed to put things in the same place, makes it even easier to find things.
    nice job xox

  7. ^^Yup… Twitter button etc coming….having tech issues at the mo….
^Yup…I’ve defaulted and joined the masses with having white backgrounds…. the thing is…it’s the way Typepad’s side columns are templated that made it impossible to have coloured/image backgrounds…. I spent days trying to figure it out…
Alas without having to resort to Advanced Templates which my brain is not able to process…this is sort of the best I can do…
Ideally, I wanted a TOTAL overhaul, which involved a custom-built template but I lack the skills and resources to do it… this isn’t an ideal solution but it’s better than nought…at least I’ve got rid of those irritating boobs…

  8. pretty pretty new colours:)
but why is the ‘low countries’ section in the links gone? my blog was in it:( *sniff sniff*

  9. i like it people are always adverse to change…in this case though it works the new layout looks sleek. Editing HTMLs can be a pain in ass, i’m still in the process of editing mine…but im too lazy

  10. I like it but i think the font could be a more relevant colour to the background and the font seems a bit…scratchy? but i’m picky 🙂
    x

  11. ^Yeah…I think I need to redo the banner…. as usual impatient me…
But the font is a bit of an odd one…I like it but doesn’t seem to work well in smaller sizes…
Do you mean the font in pink or black? I kind of wanted a set of colours that aren’t necessarily complimentary… so it’s the cream, the black, white and the pink as a highlight colour…
Feedback is cool though so I’ll have another play around…
Yay for causing havoc to browser caching…

  12. I actually like the font – the overhaul is good and I’d be cautious of making it too neat as the new look is nicely abstract. I love the colour and design. It is fresh and modern – sort of like a habitat duvet n’est pas?!

  13. It’s fine. I’d never associated Style Bubble with “sleek” before though. I’ll just have to get used to it.

  14. ^^Huh…is it actually slick though? I don’t think it is in the truest sense of the word…. it’s more reflective of what my personal taste is I guess but granted, the blog WAS designed more than 3 years ago!

  15. Ohh I clicked on and I was like woooowww…refreshing! I see what you mean about the green, no I didn’t mind it but sometimes I feel like my eyes need a change, which is why I have just changed my header actually 🙂 I think the quirky scrawly font is very you, but perhaps something…more to the header will be the icing on the cake! I don’t know, maybe it’s just me being weird. Anyway, I think it was a good change :))))

  16. I like the new look – it’s more versatile than the old look and (in my opinion) is a better reflection of your style. It’s a little more conventional, sure, but that isn’t always a bad thing. In this case, it makes sense to have a blank monochromatic palette to display your style.
I love the lettering, the only thing I might do is add some more neutral color to the header so it blends into the painting. But even that is a minute criticism – the layout is def an improvement.

  17. Very nice! It’s good to freshen up the look once in a while. I’m already thinking of my next redesign 😉

  18. Love it ! much better ! even if I was attached to the old version …
    miss u ..

  19. Oh, I popped open your page today and realized maybe it was someone else’s blog! I love the drawing of you on the header and the font.
Also, the width now gives you more space to write, which is great because your writing is one of my favorite things.

  20. At first I thought I’d got the wrong site, we’re so used to the pink and green…but StyleBubble v 2.0 looks amazing (as does that illustration of you).
It’ll just take a bit of getting used to, though- the old template was one of the most distinctive of the lot because of the colour schemes, right now it feels like looking at a completely different blog. But it looks great, and if you feel it’s more ‘you’, so to speak, then it’s all for the better.

  21. All points taken and yes, it is more conventional looking but hopefully that doesn’t detract from the content which is I think so varied that it almost needs a plainer setting for the stuff to sit properly….
What I mean is…what percentage of my posts related to er… 18th century busy mantua wearing ladies? Not many alas…
Tweaks will of course be made…
As for browsing resolution… I shall find out…

  22. When I first logged on today I thought I’d typed in the wrong url, but all in all it looks fab. They say a change is as good as a holiday… or something. Love the font!

  23. Wow, I was totally shocked, but I love love love the new look. Somehow the site works better on my computer now (always took a while to load before). Cheers!

  24. yeh the font looks cool in bigger sizes, but for the tiny headers, something more clearer! and i think its the pink. it just clashes a bit with the creamy brown background.
but i like the header 🙂

  25. nice! might i suggest using a sl smaller size font for the chanel quote? it competes a little, and if you make it a “whisper”, i think it will balance better.
    great job.

  26. it’s looking awesome. at first i was shocked and thought it was someone elses blog. i like the funny font…and i’m glad you kept the pink text! i’m missing the green already though…

  27. So Typepad doesn’t automatically resize all your previous images if you make the width bigger? I often thought about making the overall size of ours bigger but wasn’t sure if it meant previous entries would stay the same size. Now I know!

  28. ^Yeah, It’s a sacrifice I had to go with….there are so many weird bugs/oddities about Typepad that I could go on and on about but this one is the most annoying one….

  29. Love the new look. Like fashion you could change it everyday…also liking avatar and new font, change is good.

  30. I like it. Its good to have a change once in a while.
I changed my site last week and have only just got used to it!
