Nice Nasch Finds

On Saturday in Vienna, I died and went to flea market heaven.  So much so that straight after my mini spree in the market, that I gushed about it to Austrian journalists only for them to look at me with a quizzical face because they must have thought I was a silly twit who hadn't seen much of the world to be so amazed at a flea market.  The thing is, we have car boot sales, jumble sales, we have flea markets of sorts in  Brick Lane though it's not very vast, we have great selected stalls at markets like Portobello/Spitalfields but everyone here is just waaay more savvy about what their stuff is worth and so the prices are in comparison steep.  (I say we…I'm talking from a London-centric view….).

These headbands that Jessie tried were on the pricier side of things…EUR25-30 which to me seem fairly reasonable considering they are over 50 yrs old and were worn by natives of a Pacific island (eek…forgotten which one…)

At Naschmarkt in Vienna however, it's vast, variety a-plenty, clothes that aren't just limited to C&A rejects and cheap as chips.  The last point was important because I had no intention of buying anything, I only had precisely ten euros on me… with that I bought a white wool hat with black detailing that I added to my outfit I was wearing at the time for 5 Euros (Jessie from Les Mads helped me to haggle in German…).

Then at some stalls, I bought three tops for 1 EURO, a mesh grey tee and a coral lace crop top worn here…

And the find of all find was this floral oversized jacket for 1 EURO!!!  Yup, LESS than what I would pay for a bacon sarnie.  A jacket that reminded me of a culmination of things… Henry Holland S/S 09, Jessica Au's graduate collection which won her the River Island Gold Award at last year's Graduate Fashion Week (met her yesterday and she's lovely!) and the Topshop spin-offs that have been inspired by the aforementioned…

The colours are a little muted but I just love the way the florals are oversized as opposed to dainty and how it's mixed up with a Grecian statue motif… I might get it taken in/up as it's very loose.  Can't stop shaking my head in disbelief over how cheap it was…

  3. What lucky finds! I actually love the colors in the blazer.
I wish the NYC flea markets were as cheap.

  4. โ€šร‡ยจ1?? That’s like ยฌยฃ1! Absolutely amazing, I love the looseness of it all. Add Vienna to my list of places to visit…

  5. Well done Susie, good finds! Although I have to say I’m jealous of you shopping with Jess! I’ve only had the pleasure once and I was the assistance, ha! But the girl has a great eye. xx

  6. You should see all the flea markets where I live! Everywhere you go there’s a new one- but yeah, you’re finds were pretty awesome.

  7. I think those headbands are Tongan? They wear them for special events or for ceremonial dances. Pacific Islanders (and sometimes the Maori) wear special leaves in a wreath for funerals, and white flowers for weddings…it can be pretty cool!

  8. WOW! My eyes are going all googly just reading your post, which is the eye equivalent of mouth watering… What great finds and what an incredible sale!

  9. WOW that jacket is just…amazing. You are so lucky to have all those markets in Europe. In toronto we have a some vintage shops, and Kensington market, but nothing compares to what you have there.

  10. Gorgeous! Love the photo here. Thanks for sharing. Have a good day.=)

  11. I went to that market last year when I was in Vienna. I wondered around for hours in a happy daze and the bf picked up a ridiculous Walter van Beirendonck top for 2 euros.
The food bit was amazing too!

  12. I do love this, i can see it hanging on the topshop shelves but just 20th of the price ha! I know this website is not all cheap but it is some pretty wicked stuff on it – i love the new toy watches on it!

  13. Oh! I’d be gushing about those amazing bargains too!
I’m off to Vienna in August, I know where i’ll be dragging the boyf..
Do you know if it’s on specific days?

  14. omg susie, how do you get introduced to all of this crazy, awesome stuff man?!
ahh well, at least you’re sharing these hidden treasures to us! ;D
you’re so cool, i can’t believe you’re getting so little comments now! what’s happening?! lol but seriously
i check your blog everyday, because i love it so much; it’s so inspiring and there’s always something new to read ^^
you’re amazing, and cute, and gorgeous and oh-so-fashionable. you rock susie!!

  15. ah bugger, the flea market is just on saturdays yes?
I think i’m still at Frequency Festival then :/

  16. Haha, I remember this market! I stumbled upon it when I was in Vienna six years ago. Sadly, no clothes, just some antique music books (for 1 euro as well).
In PR, at least on my side of the island, most flea markets sell everything at a dollar. Which makes me happy because they’re usually at the end of the week and I have little money left over! However, in the metropolitan area, even the Salvation Army charges more.

  17. Love flea makets. I will go to one in Sweden tomorrow and is well excited.
Those hairbands that jesse tried on was just adorable.

  18. one euro!!! sounds like a proper classic flea market, not an excuse to brand things as vintage and sell for ยฌยฃยฌยฃยฌยฃ!!!

  20. Vienna’s flea market (Flohmarkt am Naschmarkt) is absolutely a MUST DO when spending a weekend in Vienna: most items sold are still pretty affordable (though, if you’re traveling in Austria, I’d recommend Linz’ MEGA flea market located on the Industriezeile, which is bigger and far cheapper: http://www.fleamapket.com/listing/mega-flea-market-interspar-linz/), it is located in a very nice restaurants area (the “Naschmarkt” which means “Sweets market” in german) and you can really find hidden gems.

There is a detail review of the Naschmarkt Flea Market of Vienna, on fleamarketinsiders.com: http://www.fleamarketinsiders.com/viennas-flea-market-naschmarkt/

    Cheers!
