I'm in the process of securing my flights back to Hong Kong in November, the one free slot of a month I have to make it back there just in time to swipe in my ID card (I'm required to go back every three years…). There are a fair few things that I need to address when I get there. First and foremost, I need to SEE and SHOP because people botching me emails asking me about Hong Kong shopping are seriously deluded, as within three years, the HK shopping landscape can change dramatically. I'm certainly of no authority to give tips as such.
Secondly and equally important is to visit local fashion designers and discover their work in person. That and eating a disgusting amount of everything. They're both at equal pegging. Maybe I can combine the two and have a meal with Cheung Lik, the designer behind jewellery line Wear and Tear. Along with fellow HK brand Daydream Nation, they're growing quickly beyond HK stockists and like all good jewellery folk, they're sold on Kabiri which can only point to good things.
Their new collection is a wispy hairy affair that takes a delicate departure down using crochet wool and suede intertwined with chains to create refined versions of what I used to do with my vintage jewellery which is knot them up deliberately. They also continue their signature pieces of interwoven felt and plated brass that are a bit more structured.
I also love their squeezed geometric range of gold and silver clusters of triangles, squares and cylinders that I can see bundled up in layers over a black tee and not much else…
Wow those necklaces are gorgeous. I have to go check this site out. *as if I need to spend more money*
You’re hawt btw *no homo* 😛 lol
Wow, I love the whispy wool ones! I bet they’re as soft as kittens x
Wow! Those certainly are statement pieces! (:
Not sure I could ever pull it over though. 😛 xxxx
I really like the last picture. Those are wicked.
The first 5 nekclaces look quite unconfortable to wear actually… All others are quite pretty!

Great pieces but I wish they took better photos. Perhaps you can model for them. 😀
I can feel the rash breaking out just looking at those. No thanks!
I love the gold and silver ones. They are really great.
these necklaces are so unique–what great finds!! Love them 🙂
I really like the felt necklaces or bracelets. I’m not so certain about the hairy ones (perhaps it is becuase in my head they have become the “hairy ones”, said with an onimous sort of voice) – but this is clearly a talented designer!
Those rings are beautiful. I love daydream nation but can never find the pieces that i want
I love the “Weaved” line by Wear and Tear! They’ve got one of their necklaces for sale through Urban Outfitters (at least in the States):

I might be in HK still in Nov… would love to see you!
Not sure how many years you haven’t been to Hong Kong, but have you gone to Festival Walk?
Also, don’t know if you shop from izzue, but I think they have improved loads in recent years. Well, they have Luke Worrall as one of the lead models, what’s not to love?
very nice!
Susie, I am a friend of Cheung Lik, could I be your tour guide and take you out to all the cool places and meet all the inspiring people in HK?
Ah, HK shopping. More of an art than a sport.
