Fight Fight Fight!

>>I'm off to Stag and Dagger my way around a ton of bands and drinks tonight so as such am letting blogging duties go for the day…

However, on the subject of mighty beasts and sharp objects, I feel like if I had a Teamo A/W 09-10 ensemble, specifically the pointy shoulders (what else!), on tonight, I might be able to beat the crowds and secure myself a position where I can actually see bands properly, not to mention winning the fight to the front of a bar queue.

Remember my vision of a Nathan Barley-esque spoof of the high shoulder-off?  These jackets would be the perfect costume.  Except I want to be living that spoof and actually would happily play into that cliche…

  1. OMG i didn’t see these images for the fall collection (posted others). i seriously need one of these jackets. so epic!

  2. The last jacket makes me think of that devil in “Legend” for some reason. I really suck at bar queues… good look and have fun tonight!

  3. Those silhouettes are unbelievable (esp. fig 3), they make me want to get leg extensions.

  4. this looks pretty lethal, i might have to borrow one for family reunions!
that being said, i am quite fond of the first one 😀

  5. Why is it that I hate those silly padded shoulders, yet these ones look awesome? It must be because they took the trend to the extremes, instead of doing a watered down modern version of 80’s shoulder pads.

  6. That second to last one is ridiculous!! <3
I agree with the comment before, Lady Gaga would hella rock this.

  7. Cammilla: If I want to take anyone out, I’ll consider your option!
Annonimo: Since you posted on the other TEAMO post in this awful way, I’ll assume there’s a bit of jealousy going on?
I kinda resent the fact that everything remotely dramatic is now put down to being LadyGaga-esque just because she showed up sans tights, in a sharp shouldered unitard…. there were people wearing these type of clothes BEFORE her existence….
Sorry for the morning mini-rant….SHE just reallly gets my goat….

  8. I am STILL trying to figure out what the best way to DIY pointy shoulders is? Some kind of wire coat hanger beastie? Hmmm…

  9. Though I like the clothes and find them (obviously) impactful….I do have to agree with Annonimo.
The designs are borrowing HEAVILY from Margiela. And by heavily I may as well go ahead and admit that I really mean, ENTIRELY. That isn’t to say that they aren’t lovely but…
And as for the shoes, yes, they too are making reference. Though bringing up the shoes brings up an interesting point as well: ALL DESIGNERS BORROW & STEAL FROM OTHER DESIGNERS. Sorry to shout there, but it seems not to have been as fully understood and accepted by the general public as it is within the industry. The shoes are case in point. Another example would be the current craze-inducing sandal bootie from Ann Demeulemeester…which looks almost identical to the shoes Helmut Lang showed in SS/2001 (if you don’t believe me click here: http://www.style.com/fashionshows/review/S2001RTW-HLANG )
Now, who among us would accuse Ann Demeulemeester of being a hack who has no ideas of her own and simply copies others? Surely no one who wasn’t thick as a stump.
Though Margiela is one of choice few who rarely plays borrower and is profusely borrowed from, even his team has sent a familiar silhouette down the runway every so often.
My conclusion, as someone who works in the industry and sees this phenomenon all the time: go a bit easier on the newbie designers when they borrow heavily, and don’t forget that even the biggest of the big are guilty of the same though the degree may be more slight.
End of sermon. Thanks for reading!

  10. I work in the industry and completely understand the meaning of “being inspired by”. In today’s fiercely competive market, we have no time for wannabe’s. So time will tell if you (new/emerging designers) will continue to “ride on the coat tails” of other pioneers such as Alaiia, Margiela, McQueen, Givenchy, Ferre & Rucci.
If all your collections end up being “inspired by” i.e. copied from established, iconic works, then your reign will be short lived.
But on a lighter note, I own one of Margiela’s incredible jackets with the pointy shoulders and GOD, it’s incredible and yes it’s a HAZAARD and NO I don’t care…..see pic below. And I still want one from these guys…….lets see what’s next for them.
