Changeling For the Seasons

It's been a while since the rail has had a shifty shifty.  Mainly down to my own laziness and not wanting to put away things like a heavy teal lace dress or a cagey slip dress.  However, I just had to do some rail shifty action purely because of the new influxes my wardrobe has had, two of which I've been playing around.  I've been thinking about how the blog itself has had a bit of a shifty shifty, having had to answer about a gazillion email interviews, some of which I'm happier to do than others (thanks Ana for the interview on um… Interview Magazine's Blog), all leading to a bout of past-reflection.

I've never been about the finished product.  I sometimes feel like I need to put 'Work in Progress' watermarks on my pictures, especially these ones.  Lately I feel like I've been caught up in trying to represent the 'best' of myself on the blog when in the past, I've been quite happy to put up 60% pictures, nay, even 40% because the whole point was that I liked the documentation process and the experiment at hand.  Well, so I'm attempting to get some of that back with some wardrobe newbies; a David David S/S 09 jumpsuit and a Giles dress that was another sample sale find… these are the little niggles that spring to mind when I'm first faced with said pieces… the directions I go in and then somewhere down the line might make a sharp U-turn back to some place else.  A bit of mindmapping might help clear things up a bit.  It's the voices in my head being typed on this very screen…. scary…

Oooh me likes the Childish Scribbles – Needs to be clashed seeing as I don't have anything um… scribbly to match it – Onesie shape – Makes me think of 5 year olds falling on their arses in onesies and trainers – Better wear with the new Dunks – Florals on shoes – Ah, those ol' leggings – Where is that random hairband that came with a top that had a very David David-esque print on it?

Hmmm, how to take the glare off the scribbles for a bit – My fallback friend of a colour, NAVY! – Bruno Pieters jacket might tone down the scribbles – Might as well ramp up handiwork thang with the embroidered cut-out leggings – Really need to get more navy shoes other than these old Topshop things.

Lilac and pink = colours that make me want to puke a little aka the Luella S/S 09 palette – Haven't worn this headband much. – Like the mug-covering veil – Ah, that gradiated tight experiment – They can come back out as the shade is an exact match to the frayed detailing on the dress – Again, where are a pair of pink/purple shoes when you need them – Nobody is ever going want to see these damn Miu Miu's again.

Nothing like a good Burberry flasher mac to dampen the spirits of a flighty voluminous heavy satin dress – Skinnies under dresses – My uniform of choice in 2005 – Except these are Orphan trews with a dropped crotch effect – Ho ho ho, all hidden under the trench and the dress.

  1. We all need some light-hearted humour with our style at this time of the year…ready for the follics of summer.
And btw – you know we all love your fashion experiments, whether 40% or 100% – work in progress is the interesting bit. I know I don’t want to see perfectly polished Sus allll the time 😉

  2. I agree, seeing the work in progress is part of the fun! The Burberry trench & Giles dress is awesome, love that you have this demure look a few pics down from the gorgeous pattern overload.

  3. Susie! You make me so darn jealous! You’ll just have to teach me your ways. I haven’t shopped at all since I’ve been back, saving every last dollar for my flight back to London. See you soon though!
    xx

  4. the jumpsuit is adorable, like totally! love the second (the navy goes really well with the prints) and third (the colour scheme is nice somehow) outfit combination!

  5. Im really loving the first outfit – those dunks go perfectly with the DavidDavid playsuit. You look so summery!

  6. Just to let you know – I changed my mind. I’m not going to blog on ‘about life’ – and I’m not going to wrap the SLOW flag around me. I’ve always been SLOW – SLOW just caught up with artizan – which, I guess caught up with ‘craft’ & so on. BUT I’m still looking for attention … so I’ve blogged some pictures for ye.

  7. all of these looks are magnificent, but i have to say i am in love with the last look. keep up the awesome experimentation, that’s why we love your blog 😀

  8. I am sure that about a hundred people have already told you this, and that you probably know yourself, but you were in May’s Vogue UK twice for what was worn at London Fashion Week, I saw the pictures and it said ‘Susie Lau’ underneath, and I was like wow, Style Bubble, lucky you 🙂 .

  9. Love love love all those looks ! I can’t choose !! 🙂 Love especially the embroidered cut-out leggings made by you 🙂
    have a nice tuesday !

  10. oh susie I want those floral dunks in fact i need them, they look fabtastic, the lilac/purple look is my favourite love all the colours.
i love david david, i like the video for his ss09 collection

  11. While I find the color awesome, I am not quite so sure I am as funky as your examples. They look a little casual for your day-to-day NYC look. One designer who I feel gets the balance between color and elegance just right is Emanuel Ungaro. All of his stuff is brilliant.

  12. I enjoy your writing and fashion thoughts at any percentage level, but I especially enjoy this kind of post. It makes me feel less crazy about the thought processes behind my own outfit putting together moments 🙂

  13. Amazing looks! I don’t know how you manage to mix all these different patterns and texture in such a unique way!

  14. I guess the way I think of blogging, is that journal filled with messy handwriting and glued in pitures and spelling mistkes are so much better and so much more full of passion then neatly typed up sheets of paper. I absolutly love your playsuit and complimentary navy.

We cannot believe that JointJumble is in your blog list thing under ‘Newcomers and Upstarts’!! What an utter honour, thank you thank you thank you, ‘appy days.

  16. I like seeing the thought process! Definitely seeing the David David-esquenss in the hairband of the first outfit, which is a favourite because of all the clashing prints. That was a really interesting interview by the way – very good questions with very good answers.

  17. yeah, when I first started blogging I posted an outfit almost every day, and now I just put up “the better” ones. I guess people are changed by what their audience wants, even subtly, but you could also say it’s a kind of personal development too – less fear, more confidence in your decisions and looks and a better understanding of what a blog communicates about you…

  18. know that feeling well 😀 your 40% is most people’s 100% anyway 😉 LOVE that onesie… and the dress is Just Too Cute! Gorgeous as ever 🙂

  19. I sooooo love those embroidered cut out leggings. That outfit is my favourite! I so love those Nike x liberty trainers.

  20. I’m just loving your new photo nook. Thanks for letting us into your thought process a little, that’s why you’re such a notable blogger – because you are so easy to relate to. When I was reading your little thought whispers, I thought of my own. I can’t tell you how much you’ve encouraged me to find it in myself to actually wear what I want without shame and explore different aspects of my already existing plethora of clothes. So, in short, thanks.

  21. I love all the outfits!
You do inspire me to wear more loud or interesting clothes, making my own trends rather then following other peoples.
I like seeing the process you go throughh, then just seeing the final desicionnn!

  22. OMG I’m dying over the 2nd outfit. I love them all but that one is my fav. I think its the colors, and the SNEAKERS!!!

  23. I am dreaming of orange tights and multi-coloured prints and then you post about David David. Oh Susie, you sweet little mind-reader…

  24. It’s great being able to see inside your mind for a moment 🙂
The David David jumpsuit is AMAZING!

  25. NONONO! The navy topshop shoes are amazing….but I know that feeling, if you are ebay-ing those puppies I want to know!!!

  26. love love love the pink and purple (i never get tired of those miu mius!) and the burberry mac.
