It’s All About Sarah and her Shop

It's got to be said that colette is more of a place to browse and get inspired than a place to do actual shopping, prohibitive prices aside.  I always whizz around the mannequins touching garments but not wanting to dig out the price tags lest I knock over something and embarrass myself in a horrible way.  I scootch around looking at whatever exhibition is going as there is inevitably some interesting collab/artist/photographer promo going on.  Then I sheepishly walk back downstairs and buy a book or a mag and that's about it.

So after a few months of observing their newly launched e-shop and the way it has been structured and updated, I can finally see myself handing over solid cash (or online debit card payment) for colette's creative director Sarah Lerfel's vision (check out the insightful interview with Sarah on Ponystep).  Sarah's choices for colette are reflected well on the new site, vastly updated from the standardised online giftshop site that it was before.  Pieces are added daily and now I'd venture to say that a good 90% of what is available in-store is now online which makes it as an e-store to contend with all the other big guns – Browns, Net-a-Porter, Matches etc.  The site also hosts special webstores for whatever collab/exclusives is going on in-store.  For instance, The Selby's special exhibition tie-in webshop or the Barbie limited product store

I'll of course still do my dumb routine of mindless wandering around just because it's one of those places that easily accomodates us non-Parisian penniless browsers.  However, the website will at least give me a fighting chance of buying into Sarah's astute choices.

  1. i love colette – everything is always so beautifully presented. know what you mean about slinking back downstairs to just buy a magazine or whatever lol. last time i was there i had a hard time leaving a lanvin hat behind, but ended up with the prigent louis vuitton / marc jacobs dvd instead lol.
that esite is so so tempting tho. they do have such special pieces… love the stuff in the selby eshop almost as much as i love the jeremy scott marie antoinette troll tee i’ve been coveting for weeks hehe.

  2. I have yet to shop at the actual store, so I’m so glad they now have an e-shop! Hooray! Thanks for sharing! Love the outfits you built 😉
    xx

  3. I feel exactly the same when walking into the shop in Paris.. so yay for eshop!!
    xx-LJ from SOS!

  4. Of course, all of these choices are beautiful. You should never be embarrassed to check a price tag, it’s almost trendy these days and certainly expected. kiss, kiss

  5. I love how all the pieces are so thought out and different to what you’d find anywhere else. Since they redesigned the site I haven’t been able to look at anything on the online store though, it’s just a long sentence of links which don’t take you anywhere on you click on them, not sure why

  6. I care for nothing else but Lanvin ballet flats! Whereever they are my prize to be! If I can one day afford to pop into Collettes to get them I’ll be whistling unashamably

  7. Wow that purple miltary style-ish jacket-thing (don’t you love hard to define clothes) is fantastic!
Me want! Onto the store I go… to dream…

  8. haha, your description of a shopping trip to collette is definitely spot-on! i was in paris for the first time last year and made sure to visit colette, but really all i did was shuffle around trying not to touch things TOO much and yes, too scared to look at the price tags. and then i went downstairs and bought a book and a keychain and felt a little embarrassed checking out. totally worth it though, very inspiring selection of merchandise.

  9. OH the Selby Shop, god, that crap enraged me!!! I still may need to blog about it just to vent. (your selections are lovely though, duh)

  10. Colette is definitely mainly a ‘browse-only’ store for me. As you said, because I’m just scared I’ll knock something over so I don’t really dare touch anything. I think that’s the main advantage to browsing their online store! I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone actually purchase anything on the 1st floor. I do find their collaborations a bit hit or miss though. Have yet to see the Selby collab, but have heard mixed reviews. They also don’t have the best sales in the city, for that you’d be better off heading to the actual designer flagships.

  11. Wow! i was fascinated by your shop. it definitely good. all the clothes there. was great and attractive I love the style and design of all the items on your shop. hope it will be successful. keep it up!

  12. i just posted about colette/the selby too. albeit it a more rushed and less informative manner. excited about my first trip to colette this weekend – apparently our apartment is five mins walk away.
in other news, i have a new blog if you’d like to update your links.
