Don’t Blame the Shoes!

>> So some of you may have seen/read either on Dazed Digital's blog (thanks David… no really…) or via Imelda that I took a fall at Jean Charles de Castelbajac today and was whisked to hospital.  Let's go over the finer details so I can clear the shoes of any blame.  So I was walking down the escalator as it wasn't working when suddenly a girl who was in an odd hurry to get to Jean Charles de Castelbajac show hurried down the escalator on my lefthandside knocking into my shoulder which caused the stiletto of my Topshop Unique grey heels to get stuck in the ridge of the escalator steps at which point I tried to move forward and then my ankle buckled in a pretty painful way.  Crazy girl didn't even stop but her friend did.  Alas, with my poor pidgen French he couldn't really help me.  In the end I hobbled my way to JCDC anyway (better to be with familiar faces) where I did see the show and during which the ankle got unbearably painful).

Afterwards, the whole Dazed/Another mag team were on hand to help me to the ambulance and now I'm sitting here with a pile of drugs and some crutches.  It's some sort of serious sprain but I'm not really sure seeing as I wasn't really understanding what was going on (note to self: must complain to French government about public hospitals….).  But the real important point here is…the Topshop Unique shoes were not to blame!  I walked in them perfectly fine for a whole day on Saturday with no problems whatsoever.  Maybe if I had been wearing these Bruno Frisoni shoes made especially for Barbie's 50th Anniversary, the girl might have slowed down a little to wonder why I have naked dolls clambering up my ankles… I think I would fork out the 510 euros for them right now just to get rid of the excruciating pain and general disability I'm experiencing (needed help going to the loo…. lowpoint of my early twenties surely….)

  1. Eeek – fashion emergency! Feel better soon. I don’t blame the shoes. I blame the escalator ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Eeeep! Feel better Susie!
(and on the bright side, at least it happened towards the end of the fashion weeks!)

  3. Aw! I’m so sorry–I hate how you get into your 20s and take a tumble and things HURT.
    Feel better dear Susie.

  4. glad to read you’re AOK (of sorts)…if you can ID the fast moving frog I’ll b sure to introduce her to the real Order of Imelda Taser Heels.xxx

  5. Does this mean you can’t wear heels for a while?
In all seriousness, I’m glad it’s only a sprain and I hope those painkillers are working.
I think if you were wearing the Frisoni’s in this case, Barbie would have met an unfortunate end in the escalator!

  6. I saw the picture earlier today. Susie I hope you get better soon. How ignorant can that girl be not to even check on you. I bet she wouldn’t even have slowed down for the Bruno Frisonis. Hope the meds manage the pain for you!

  7. Well I hope you got a good look at her so you can clunk her next time with your shoe! Sorry for the pain, hope that ankle heals so you can wear heels!

  8. That’s scary! Glad you’re recovering. And those Barbie shoes are totally perfect for getting people to stop when they trip you, haha.
    xo

  9. Susie, I am so sorry to hear about your fall, I hope at least the meds are helping. I couldn’t help but wonder, while you are healing, maybe you should try a pair of shoes by Gwendolyn Huskens (made from medical materials). xo

  10. funny, i recently took a tumble too… scrapped my knee and sprained my heel… but i refuse to blame my (killer) heel!

  11. OMGosh! Hope your sprain recovers quickly! Can’t believe the girl didn’t even stop when you tumbled!
Just don’t do what I did: sprain my left ankle worse than right one week after spraining the first…that was genius!
    xx

  12. It’s terrible that the girl didn’t even have the decency to stop, apologize, or ask if you were all right. In the end, it’s just fashion–it’s not worth getting someone else hurt.
    Hope you’ll feel better soon!

  13. Woah, hope you had that European Health Insurance card thingy (I think I’ll guard mine with my life, just in case), feel better soon!

  14. I’m sorry to read that and this girl is to be blamed. I know that ankle injury can be really painful. Hope you will recover soon.

  15. Oh no, I hope you feel better soon! On an escalator even :s my aunt once saw a person get their clothes/shoe stuck in an escalator when she was young. The escalator tried to suck that person “in”. Till this very day (she 62 now!) she’s still afraid of going on escalators. Hope this didn’t traumatise you!

  16. sounds like achilles ligament damage if it was seriously painful & gradual. See a GP or specialist when you get back, as it can heal in an unorthodox way or even develop anterior cruciate ligament damage long-term.

  17. You poor thing ๐Ÿ™
Ankle aside – are your shoes ok? When my friend’s brother fell down an escalator in London, he was more traumatised that the A & E dpt cut off his Helmut Lang t-shirt.

  18. awwh no way, I hope you feel better soon!
My boyf torn a ligament in his ankle 3 weeks ago and he’s still hobbling so I hope yours isn’t as serious!
    Take care!

  19. oooh susie! sounds painful, and not even stopping to help or apologise? how rude! hope you recover quickly my dear!
    hugs,
    Mathilde xxx

  20. That sucks – your gonna have to wear trainers for a little while now – sprains take ages to heal!

  21. love from all at fashion156. hope you are soon skipping and rushing around at the normal susie pace. mr s mentioned a holiday…..think it could be good?!
    xx

  22. I’m very glad to hear that you’re ok but still in pain, hope the drugs works?!
Blame the escalator engineer for not designing something safer for heel/extreme heels wearers.
Can’t wait for your next exciting post….!!
    Get well soon dear!!

  23. The description made me do a screwed up face, boo on girls and escalators. Hope you feel better soon and are back to your normal, high heeled self xx

  24. Sounds painful Susie – I hope you’re recovering. Stupid escalator girl…so the rude f*ckers aren’t just in London then?

  25. gosh i hope you recover fast! your poor ankle, i’m sure the girl will get a lot of surprising bad karma, and maybe you will develop a love of flats? who knows!

  26. that’s a total bummer, but i’m just going to call you out on your denial of the culpability of the heels…
if you had been wearing flats your heel wouldn’t have got caught in the escalator…
    just saying…
    hope you get better soon…

  27. Yikes…hope you feel better soon. This kind of thing is why I avoid escalators like the plague and am a complete freak about finding the stairs or elevator in any building I’m in (well, that and falling down one as a child).
Take care of yourself and try to enjoy the enforced rest.
    Heb

  28. that bites! ๐Ÿ™
at least you got to see the show and got sympathy from the Dazed people.
    feel betterx
