Costume for Hire

It's a bit of an annoying predicament flipping through fashion editorials only to find the items that I really really really want are not in fact the McQueen's, the Chloe's, the Balenciaga's etc all of which can be obtained through a smidge of good old fashioned dishonesty, but that they come from sources like The National Theatre Costume Hire.  Illustrated by these shots from the current issue and March issue of Dazed (soz for the in-house office pillaging… any other NTCH examples are more than welcome…).

Behold…

Yup, have realised I've missed the focal points of these shots entirely…namely the bit of blinding Prada S/S 09 gold and THAT Christopher Kane gorilla print dress… alas for me, the grass is greener on the National Theatre Costume Hire field unfortunately, which leaves me wondering whether they will have an Angels type-sale eventually selling these epaulettes and tights… I can only hope. Actually come to think of it maybe I am striving to be some sort of mythical hybrid creature with winged shoulders and flaming legs…. yes that must be the case.

On a separate note, on the NTCH site, I discovered the wonderful video work of Rowena True who made a very cute video illustrating the Dress-Up nature of the National Theatre's costume archives…

She also made this video about the Dress-Up nature of one of my ol' Shoreditch shop haunts, No-One.  I spy a possible video series where True can delve into all the notable stores, making sweet little vids honing in on the wares and essence of each store.  Maybe it's a work in progress?

  5. I looked at this hours ago, but was interrupted before I could comment. I can’t stop thinking about the epaulettes, they are sheer fantasy.
And both videos were a lot of fun.

  6. Those epaulettes!!! I want them now. Do you think they’re a tad de trop for Tescos?
