I don't say "Good Golly Gosh!" that often in a fashion circumstance. Actually, some might think I shouldn't be saying that phrase at all considering how old-school and twee it sounds. Still, I am expressing genuine hand-over-mouth surprise when I bust out with the GGG. Iris Van Herpen is one of those designers where GGG always applies despite the fact I'm quite familiar with her work and her obsession with manipulating unusual materials. I shouldn't be surprised. Still, each of her collection always comes up and slaps me around the face and stun me. Her A/W 09 collection "Mummification" is no exception and yes, Diane, as always is on the ball so I'm a little late with my Amsterdam Fashion Week catch up but I just had to, had to post all of these delectable delights…
I would say the word 'mummification' doesn't scare me in the least if I'm going to be wrapped up in slashed leather, pebble studs, corset lacing and all kinds of braidng/knotting…
Damn! I can’t even imagine how much work has been put into each piece there..
Amazing…..

Heavens! What detail! This lady’s work is exqusite.
GGG indeed! I actually do say that, but the point is that this stuff is amazing! “Exquisite” is spot on.
Susie I’m going to Paris for two days this weekend, I know it’s perhaps a broad question, but what can I do to see Paris from a style bubble point of view, I’ve been several times before so done the generic tourism, wanting to try something a bit different. If you’ve posted about this before sorry but I can’t find anything in the archives.
Sci-fi-predator-tastic!
I love the extreme complexity & outlandish shapes.
I’d so love to feel the texture of these garments!
It’s futuristic, austere yet totally theatrical & just altogether fabulous!
I WANT one of those crochet style gimp masks for when I do the weekly shopping…”OMG, there’s an alien foetus standing in the crisp aisle” or maybe this could be Mrs Beckhams new accessory du jour in replacement to her surgically attached huge sunglasses(miaow)…now there’s a thought!
I’d very happily be mummified if it involved these amazing pieces!
I love the photography of these images.
The way they seem to actually vibrate on screen almost.
Wow!

beautiful!
It’s no fun when you dangle the perverbial carrot infront of my face and tell me I can’t have it. Where can I buy this, how do I get it in my closet, why don’t we see more of this in NY Fashion week?
So many questions, why, when, where & what?
Answers? Anyone?
Holy mother of god, this is like Natalia Brilli only more so!
I have no idea what’s going on here…

not sure if you’re a fan of dan savage (of ‘savage love’ sex advice column fame) but for him and his listeners at least, ggg = good, giving and game.. which i suppose is appropriate, given the slightly bondage-y leanings of the collection? i love the fifth image – makes me think of early 20thC flying aces..
Those are incredible, it must take a lott of talent to create designs like that out of those materials.
Also I think it’s a good thing you use that phrase, I’m currently trying to get “Crikey” back into popular usage. Not sure how well it’s going though…
WOW! that’s crazy! thanks for sharing!
That’s gorgeous!

Incredible!! It actually looks like the mummies and their..cases (?) in the museums!! Love it.
The braiding details are WOW.
its amazing how something so unstructured can create such voluminous silhouettes.
The amount of work that must have gone into these pieces makes me want to run into my room, hide under the covers and whimper…They are absolutely jaw-droppingly stunning!
I think your friend Anthony and Ms. Van Herpen are in
a class by themselves… EXTREME TALENT.
Amazing! So much talent and imagination. I absolutely love it.
Huh? What the…? Actually the first look didn’t scare me – after all it is couture. But, the rest…?????
!!!!!!!!!!!
Susie, this is off topic but I was just looking at this good Canadian online store and they have Ann D floral pants on sale at the moment-

I remembered you writing about wanting a floral suit for your BF and thought this would be the next best thing!

simply great, great work.
shows enthusiasm of the designer, and I love people who love their work!!! How can pain be this glamorous??? I think there must be (guess what?)- LOVE! – the deepest inspiration fot the concept…
and here we are, art is the therapy…:-)
I saw her things also in Surface magazine, and I’m happy you placed it here, cause it’s pleasure to see all this respect and agreement in comments.
you have such an eye for unusual textures/shapes/colors etc. i would love to see some sort of visual map or timeline of your fashion interests. i’m not sure what it would tell anyone, aside from being an interesting experiment, but as a visual person, as you are, and someone with great humor and ability to be ‘in the moment’ it would be very cool to see.
be honest. Is not copy gareth pugh’s work? i do not like. because all pieces looks like so heavy. not interesting.
goed luck
