You Animal

I can now admit it.  I DO finally like animal print…. the more fake looking, the better.  I don't really know when that happened.  Somewhere between grudgingly admitting I do like some of the Christopher Kane S/S 09 elements and finding myself drawn to pastel leopard print at New Look.  I've gone further and regressed into 90s' tacky realms where hot pink leopard print and faux neon fur is suddenly looking mighty appealing.  Right now, my 'animal' repetoire is quite muted and a tad too subtle…. so I'll be on the look out for some disgusting grossly fake animal things…

A quick note to self before I dash out to catch to Eurostar…am late already…

  1. Sometimes all it takes is a new context. That’s what keeps fashion moving, familiarization and defamiliarization. I love animal print, mostly on women, it can be adventurous or ironic. I think it can be a fun accent piece for guys, but I don’t think its for me.

  2. The mix of prints looks fantastic! I have tights very similar to those snakeskin print ones and I love wearing them!
Re your comment: I decided to go for a more unusual LFC scarf so that it’s not too in-your-face and I can wear it more regularly! Grey is still associated with them though – its often their away kit colour =]

  3. Oooh so jealous, I lurve your tights. I’m addicted to animal prints, on absolutely anything and everything. Especially faux snakeskin and leopard print.
Strangely enough I hate croc effect handbags though.
I went to London’s Carnaby St, a few months ago, and got some wicked red leopard print footless tights. Which I’m still totally in love with. I just wish I had some new killer black leather boots to finish the look of, ya know.

  4. I had a similar epiphany…I went from “dear God, animal prints, no”…to lusting after all kinds of patterns. I think it just takes time to get over all the overwhelmingly tacky references that animal prints conjure up…my own arch-nemesis (and the image that kept me away from leopard for a long time)…Bet Lynch from Coronation Street…

  5. Yay, look forward to seeing your next animal print outfits! I don’t like those tacky 90s things too, but I positively love that leopard coat Kate Moss is always wearing. I think it is real fur, but if I bought a coat like that I would buy a fake one. I’m okay with slaughtering a sheep for my coat, but not with slaughtering a leopard.

  6. Me too! When I first started blogging, I DESPISED animal print. Then I saw leopard + plaid, “Hey, I actually rather like that” to loving all sorts of animals, then more recently I’ve found myself being drawn to reptile skins and disgustingly fake prints, like the ones you described. I love this photo!

  7. i’m starting to warm to leopard print but the that’s probably as far as i’ll go. snake print has some bad memories… a stretch sateen snake print t-shirt when i was about 14. yuck.
i’m really not ready for a 90s revival, still a bit too close to the bone!

  8. I’ve never been a huge fan of any animal print except tiny leopard print, and even then not on me. I AM liking those shoes however, who are those by?

  9. I usually don’t think about animal prints. I’ve never much cared for them, but I might like the idea of fake or abstract looking interpretations. Hmm. Now I want to experiment.

  10. Well, i came of age (ie, fashion-conscious)at the dawn of the 90s and so i could never entirely abandon my roots. Though i no longer possess twenty pairs of stripey tights, i’ve retained an unashamed love of animal prints and furry things in general…but enough of me. what you have put together here is just beautiful. those shoes are amazing. the whole color scheme is like a stormy day. gorgeous.

  11. As much as I believe that animal print can be totally classy, everytime I see it, first thing that pops into my head is Peg Bundy.

  12. it’s like a meow-mookitty stepped on some colorful pop art lucite and then took a photo.
oh. i love it very much. very much in deed.
you rock. the clash never looked so fine.

  13. Still not my thing, but I do admit Christopher Kane collection, with the orange animal (leopard?) printed fabric and those fab skirts, fascinated me… There will surely be something similar in Zara and H&M soon, so maybe I could give it a try!

  14. like to see you embraceing the animal print
but there really is nothing worse than those primark leopard print handbags everyone bought back in the day…i slightly put me off…but snake skin is were its at!
