Is it me? Do I smell? Does my email address smell? I’ve only ever tried to email submissions request thing once or twice but I’ve never had very good yield. Don’t be shy people, my emails won’t bite!
Anyhow, I KNOW guys did scam in on the Comme des Garcons x H&M womenswear stuff and I KNOW they were trying on the dropped crotch trews that I got. Don’t be embarrassed! Even the highly critical commentors on the Sart were chiming in that guys seem to be able to pull of the dropped crotch trew better than us gals. I got two responses and one of them is my boyf… pathetic I tells ya!
Still, two is better than none. The first one comes from Brandon who I have in fact met in real life as he caught me in a major shoe trying on sesh in Topshop. This image comes under extenuating circumstances as Brandon was 13 hours away from making the move from London to New York (he’s half American, half British and was also born in Hong Kong…the best of many worlds I feel…). This outfit is actually his plane outfit and here’s what he has to say on the matter…
"Originally I had on 8 layers not including double layered trousers lol. In the end depending on just how manic it gets with my suitcase space I may actually have to wear this amount of clothes on the plane. I am taking far too many coats and jackets and knitwear and not enough of things i actually
need.
My challenge the other day was if I could wear them to the school I used to attend then I could wear them anywhere. Even when I got funny faces I just thought, ‘Great I made someone smile!’ and lets face it in this current economic climate people need to smile even if they are doing so at my expense."
I share your sentiment Brandon and I can’t believe you managed to double layer those trews…gives me the idea to do the same thing.
Next we have dear Steve. He didn’t buy the trews. He didn’t even get up early enough to make it to the launch with me. Instead, he has taken to borrowing my trews despite the calves being a wee bit on the tight side. If the reference isn’t clear enough, here’s what he says…
"As you can see I decided to style the trousers by turning myself into the offspring of a Samurai and Obi-Wan Kenobi…I just wish I had a light sabre."
Not being a huge Star Wars fan, I’m not that excited at the prospect of a light sabre… I am however loving his Carola Euler detailed jersey cardigan which he is wearing here as I bought it as a pressie for him giving me the opportunity to also nick it occasionally. Wuhaha…clever and cunning pressie strategy there.
So, only two submissions but they both happen to be two different extreme takes. It’s odd that seemingly the obvious tactic would be to simplify them and play the shape down, yet in fact, they have prompted for further extreme styling.

at least your boyfriend reads your blog… dear steve… you do look a little obiwan, but it’s only because the starwars references seemed to have seeped into every aspect of our culture. damn lucas.
Love both takes! I can’t choose which I like more!
Also, did you see your Comme Des Garcons video made it onto buzzfeed? Congrats!

Hooray for these brave souls.
Both are superb.
Wow! Very different! I love Steve’s one: go Star Wars!! I know it is geeky and I must admit I wouldn’t style myself on it, but I do love the way he has made Obi Wan look cool.
That jersey cardigan is fantastic too – good present idea, want to see how you wear it too!! xx
Those pants really really remind me of Isabel Marant pants… the ones that came out first.
I have emailed you several times (interview requests, questions, etc) and never ever got an answer. so no, maybe your email doesn’t smell, but sure thing i got the idea maybe it has some issues.
Ha ha ha I love the present giving technique, It’s so easy to do that with accessories for boys like man bags and jewellery. I’m also forever stealing a massive over sized scarf that I bought my b.f whilst we were in chester. In fact I think he’s worn it about once! The pants look pretty cool on boys.

Steve’s is amazing, his cardigan is absolutely beautiful. Great piece!
just 2!?! what the hell boys, don’t be shy. Kudos for steve and brendan tho, who both look fantastic!
typo, i meant brandon!
I want these so. There’s no luck in the West. There’s no luck on eBay. And I’m a boy.
i KNOW guys bought these! or at least TRIED them on. that is how i managed to score mine! i yoinked them from a dude who decided NOT to buy them. steve looks RAD btw.
oh, the jacket, trousers and shiny black boots? hot. so very hot.
The number of men who can wear these well is few and far between.
Or, in this case, two.
your style is very cute. i think the long crotch pants work better on the blond guy. he’s taller, so maybe it works better with his legs?
boys pull it off better than girls??
nahhh
doesnt look half bad on your steve but still, girls rock it nicer, like the harem look but more…errrrm…modernist…duno could be back that up…
I think they look amazing with more layers. Cardigans, scarves, vests- anything really!
The boys look fabulous! I love it.
I’ve never seen Star Wars and so I just think Steve looks great, really modern – I do have a weakness for guys in grey & black & boots!
You are so lucky to have found such a style conscious bf! I wonder if they’re as hard to come by in the UK as they are here in the States.
eek ! I love your boyfriend! (in a totally non-creepy way)
I WANNA HEAR HIS ACCENT!
i really like steve’s outfit! something about that cardi that gives him an air of nonchalent chic. great idea for a present! Xp i might try to make use of that ruse one day…
I like the second picture better. That totally suited him. Well done! (hopefully this won’t post twice.)
Steve is blushing…. Marka: please send that email again…Hotmail is very erratic…
Hey Susie, first of all I love your blog – one of my favourites out of tonnes of fashion blogs that I read online :O)
And I thought I’d refer you to this pic that I just found on The Satorialist (30th pic down on Mon 17th Nov) to add to your collection of pics. I love the simplicity of his outfit and how easily he pulls off the low crotch pant. Reminds me of those Thai Fisherman pants, but a modern version. Very cool.
I can confirm that I am indeed blushing and I’m at work so people are looking at me strangely! Thanks for your comments. I’ve always had an interest in style but have to admit that Susie has had a substantial influence over me, primarily by opening up my eyes to a wealth of emerging designers.
I LOVE Brandon’s choice of scenery – homey with family photos and all. How sweet.
Style Salvage Steve’s outfit is AWESOME – love that cardie and the boots.
i dont know why its such a big deal for people to try out something different. in fashion never say never. though in my case i have been a fan of drop crotch pants several years back. i guess we belong to those open minded set. Id definitely agree with you when you said that in hong kong drop crotch pants are everywhere.. its a staple.. like skinny jeans are to british. oh well so long as i feel fab wearing them. wanna send you the pic of me wearng them. how can i send them?
Phew, well Steve deffinitely did the better job. I must say thankfully i did not have to double layer my trousers in the end (despite being 10kg over on each case) and i only had to wear the red jacket through security. still managed to over heat though but of course once airborne started feeling a little cold, but i was sitting on the sunny side and the sun through the window really warmed me up.
anywho, i did wear them yesterday as i would wear them in a more normal situation but alas i had no way to take a photo for you susie. Walked allover the city in them and registered a lot of interesting looks, ranging from 75% confused, 20% amused, and the rest were kind of admiring. spent the day at Issey Miyake and someone thought i worked there and i felt to embarresed saying that they were from the H&M comme collab. Maybe you should leave the challenge open for awhile i’d love to see how others wear this. but i have learnt my lesson, no impulse emails to challenges 14 hours before a flight when most of my stuff is already packed.
May just not be a lot of boys with these pants.
