The Loewe Deets

My knowledge of the Spanish luxury brand Loewe isn’t deep to say the least.  Heck, two years ago, I couldn’t even pronounce the word properly (Lo-ee-vay).  I vaguely know of the change of creative directors over the past few years and that Stuart Vevers now has had two seasons under his belt at the brand.  When I went to see the S/S 09 presentation at the beautiful Folies Berg√®re, I sort of bumbled into the not really knowing what was going on.  What I was hit with was an onslaught of deets… deets that were magnified under bright spotlights and easier to pick out since all the clothes and accessories were on mannequins and guests were allowed to go right up close to them, touching things.  Ignoring the Loewe origin or where Vevers’ influences come from (70s’ Loewe archives if you must know…), there was just a real mass of stuff going on to coo over…

Multiple shades of grey sequins shimmering around (I need to upgrade from my black sequin obsession…) // Delicately cut leaves layered into a fluttering fabric

The chunkiest rope belt that sits on top of the THICKEST grey patent (me thinks if I topped the skirt with my Toga jacket, I’d positively look like terrifying…)

You know I’m not a bag person but these jingle and jangle quite pleasingly…

The glasses are pleasingly chunky and almost cartoonish in their shape without being too obnoxious..

The shoes also stunning feats in themselves combining admittedly Miu Miu-ish ruffles with gold spiral heels and a mix of textures and colours…

  1. Amazing stuff! A gray patent suit is one I would like to see indeed. I like paint-splattered stuff but it always confuses me because I feel like it must be DIY-ed and then if you do DIY it, the question “why?” can only be countered with “why not?”

  2. A coupe of weeks ago I attended a fashion congress where Enrique Loewe mentioned how happy they are with Stuart Vevers as the designer of the house. He also said that in the past they didn’t choose his designers wisely (he stressed the name of Narciso Rodr√≠guez…).

  3. Gosh it is all about the detail. I’m waiting to see the next collection and how established Vevers gets Loewe to be – the bags are the business.

  4. loewe has been stepping it up 10 fold for sure
i loved their shoes last seasonw ith lightbulb and screwdriver heels.

  5. I love the ruffled shoes, I always see this on the high street to a much reduced scale and as a rule the ruffles tend to lie to the front of the shoe rather than the reverse.

  6. Saw a lot of Loewe in Madrid earlier in the year. Beautiful but killingly expensive!!!! However, would so be tempted by those shoes or bags; especially the dove-grey shoe with the gold spiral heel and the fabulous pink bag with the chunky gold handle.

  7. i saw one boring loewe bag and thought that their brand was more safe than experimental. i was completely wrong. totally justifies not juding a book by its cover. i’d kill for those glasses! ahhhh.

  8. Now I know how to pronounce that brand. Ha! Thank you, Susie, for no assuming that I(some of us really)’d know.
Ruffle everywhere. Cool. It never occurred to me that you’d work. I know you do work for Dazed but didn’t think that you’d have a 9-5 job. well I got it wrong maybe.

  9. years ago i worked for a shoe/clothing boutique specializing in spanish designers. we carried a line of bags from one of the loewe family members, and the craftsmanship and leather were absolutely amazing. i then shadowed the official loewe boutique, checking out the butter soft accessories whenever i could.
loewe is one of those quiet labels that rarely get press, but, in my opinion, are miles ahead in quality compared to the major luxury brands. i’m glad you made this post with all the swoon-worthy detail pics! those shoes are so old-school designer i love them.

  10. Loewe is a very classical brand in Spain, mainly known for its suede bags. It used to be like a rich ladies thing. The idea of bringing in Sturat Vevers is to make it more modern an young.
