Jewellery Dictation

I’m getting longer bouts of homesickness for Hong Kong to the point where one of my favourite things to do is to sit in a dingy cafe in Chinatown chewing on a pineapple bun and slurps on a cold milk tea watching cheesy Canto-pop videos on the TV even though it literally hurts the ears.  I therefore sniffed a little as a package with those recognisable HK stamps came in for me.  I love international packages in general becasuse they generally need more stamps.  This one had seven.  I stopped my pathetic sniffling when I saw the package was from Daydream Nation, one of the few Hong Kong labels that have made it over to European shores and have had success doing so, staging some of my most memorable shows during London Fashion Week.  How can you not smile when you have a heart shaped doilly, cute boxes and an A5 lookbook that looks like an old mailer.

Inside all of this wonderful encasement though, lay two pieces of jewellery which led to two ensembles in a reverse order.  The jewellery are usually things that go on last over an outfit, guided by the outfit and its style and colours.  With this knitted gold chain necklace…

…and shirt collar wristlet, I let the jewellery inform the outfit…

I do promise that I will make it back to Hong Kong though early next year to cure myself of this bun-eating, tea-drinking slump.

  1. I love that wristlet Ms Bubble, and you’ll be the only one in London with that unique piece of jewellery.. muhahah.

  2. That necklace is so darling! I love both these outfits, especially the first one. I hope you feel better and get to HK soon! 🙂

  4. Those are seriously cool jewlery! I really like how you styled it, especially the collar and wristlets, You made them look more interesting. And the necklace just gives me tons of ideas, not that I will do much with the ideas, but you know, I might, ore I might just save the image in my head and take it out for inspiration some time;)

  5. i’m never satisfied with the supposed Hong Kong chinese food fare that I get here.. pineapple buns are called pineapple buns, but they are NOT supposed to be served with pineapple! well lo and behold, several pseudo cha chan tangs here serve it with the canned yellow fruit. the wristlet looks cute but i can’t see much of it in the picture ):

  6. I love the way you highlighted the knitted necklace and cuffs. You really know how to let the accessories speak.

  13. I love your outfit interpretations of the vibe of each piece of jewelry. I should try that sometime.

  14. When I miss home I log on to youtube and watch political scandals. Thanks for posting this! I’d seen some Daydream Nation pieces before but hadn’t realized they were from Hong Kong…

  15. they are cute indeed. I think I have something I could send you. I can’t wear it since it’s pink and burgundy but I think it will work with your wardrobe. It’s a silk corded necklace from paris which was an impulse buy a few years ago and I only wore it once. 🙂
probably my package won’t be as exciting as these but it will be interesting to see you putting together a ‘look’ for it. interested?

  17. Hey, wonderful outfits! You are gorgeous!
I just found this beautiful dress that Roisin Murphy is dressed in, designed by an Romanian designer – http://www.circuit-bored.blogspot.com/.
I also liked the jumpsuit that the designer is wearing, and is cheap too. She is saying that the jumpsuit is made specially for Roisin’s dancers. Sweet!

  19. That´s sweet and for me it´s the same way. I´m always excited about packages from my relatives from korea.
And don´t be homesick too much. “Savoir vivre” 😉

  20. Gah, I love the way you let the outfit pick from the accessories. I find too many people overaccessorize when they try the reverse all the time with pieces like that and they never pull it off. I love the outfits you made…
And go home to HK soon! Just for a visit at least. get some non-fast food foodies to munch on here and take some pictures to hang them up in your room, so you can at least pretend to be there when you’re not.

  21. Cute pink socks and shirt collar wristlets! And I love how Asians are always detailed and dedicated in their packaging and gifts wrapping.

  22. hi i’m from HK and am sure you’ll be suprised how much has changed! There is this brand, Initial, which I really love, both design-wide & it’s shop’s interor design & think you’ll love too next time u visit HK. Hope to meet you up!

  23. I feel the same way about Taiwan too, and have homesick pineapple cake binges. It’s probably not too healthy…
Anyway, you pull of the DN acessories with typical Susie flair!

  24. I’ve popped a link to this blog on mine if that’s ok? You’re in my faves 🙂 Great style!

  25. The packaging is absolutely divine, the dolly was a lovely touch 🙂 And I adore the second outfit, those cuffs are literally beautiful

  26. The shirt collar wristlet is stunning and could be a very versatile accessory at the same time.
And you should really make that Hong Kong trip! 😉

  27. Love the collar and cuff! I fell in love with Hong Kong when I went – amazing style! Wishing for you that you’ll be there soon!
