I want to firstly thank EVERYONE that commented on the Pro Choice post. It incited the most ever comments on a singular post on Style Bubble and a flow of anecdotes, words of support and poignant points raised about the blogosphere that gives both bloggers and readers food for thought, which I never imagined would happen. However I do want to stress that I did not mean or want people to criticise the trio of bloggers that I used as points of illustration. In fact, something popped up that definitely affirms that bloggers like Fashion Toast and Karlas Closet are influential in a way that mine would never be, that they have a very special place in the blogosphere hence their success… bring forward the summer 08/09 lookbook of Australian label Maurie and Eve, which in its styling, photography and even individual item design could not remind me any MORE of Rumi’s pictures…
Ripped denim, tie dye, distressed leather, black sequins, shapes that don’t distract or are difficult to wear… all of that stuff that runs through the much of the current blogosphere climate and is usually met with a lot of enthusiasm. Like I said before, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that especially if prospective customers buying Maurie and Eve (apparently it’s getting a huge US launch next year…) takes these items out of its sunkissed, tanned, tousled plaited hair context and somehow comes up with a different version of it. I’m especially liking the scratch noise prints.

Rumi should definitely ask for some copyrights here! And she is lucky to have a boyfriend who is such a talented photographer, because IMHO half the “Fashion Toast” success is due to his amazing skills.
i just wonder if fashion bloggers are using their own style sense as innovators&visionaries, or are copycats&mimics–imitating what they know and see: using fashion magazines, runway shows and models for their photos &posts. There is the widely commented: is Rumi = Erin Wasson Clone? It’s hard to distinguish differences in their Ca beach/grunge style…isn’t it? Since fashion is a constant cycle of recycling old trends it’s hard to see who is influencing who and what came first- the chicken or the egg? That’s why it’s my personal preference to enjoy perusing the blogs of susie bubble, clotheshorse, moohoop, and dreamecho (=less trendy but more diverse style ideas) rather that the trio you referenced.
I do think those three are beautiful, stylish and creative ladies. Camille with her fun DIY’s and sweet innocence, Rumi our hometown sweetheart, who has amazing pictures and a smoking hot bod and a great mix of vintage and new. And Karla, who is semi new to me, who has been fun to check out lately.
I do think they are all unique in their own ways. You just seem to be more artsy, and remind me of how I want to dress everyday but can’t seem to be creative or brave enough to do the avant garde thing. Sometimes I really feel like it and sometimes I want to blend in more. It doesn’t help that I have to wear black/white and grey to work. That has put a major damper on my style as I love love love color. Luckily I do love black and grey and I have been finding some really interesting things to make the muted colors at least interesting.
Oh I’ve been busy trying to avoid turning into a homeless blogger so I missed all this pro-choice woo ha but I noticed 300 plus comments – that in itself is cause for consideration.
I liked your prochoice post a lot. I think people just need to realize that fashion isn’t the same for everyone. You will have your Camille and your Rumi and your Susie Bubble. They will not all be the same. People interpret fashion their own way. =)
i don’t understand why you would even mention/ compare yourself to these teenagers with no education or pedigree .
leave them to the illiterate photo -lookers.
The pro-choice was very well done and really touched me. There is so much room on the internet – people should be able to do whatever the hell they want without having to live up to a certain standard.
And these pictures are really Rumi-esque.
I know we should not criticise, all three of them are very talented bloggers, and the clothes and pictures are very nice, but still, for me, it feels a bit.. pretentious?
but of course they’re not, they’re very ‘chic’, haha 😀
Love, love love your blog by the way!

That was a ‘goodie’ post I might add.
Those are delicious. I think they have your name on them. I can really see you in all.
Wow, the resemblance is amazing.
Though I have to agree with the other posts, You’re my favourite because your style is so unique to you and reminds us that crazy can be ok! I hope that came out right because I really do think your blog and style are wonderful.
Another nice inspiring post susie,I like all four of you, because as Alicia stated there is room for everyone. I’m yhinking I like the first pic.
umm bb that was probably the rudest comment i’ve seen. you don’t even fucking know the trio personally so you have no right you claim they are uneducated
I’m regretting that I didn’t comment on that post myself — it was already deluged by the time I saw it and I didn’t think it would matter. But now I don’t know why I didn’t. So many of my favorite blogs — including yours — aren’t directly in line with the super popular and HIGHLY adulated blogs. (Though I must say that I generally think of you as one of the super popular blogs, to the point where I consider it a giggle-worthy honor that you comment on mine). Your temperance in the face of those absurdly stupid comments is more graceful, cool, and admirable than practically any response to trolling that I’ve ever seen.
I agree that these resemble Rumi’s photos, but to be honest, they are not as good! And I think the best part of Rumi’s style is that most of it is DIY or from thrift shops.
So to me, this line looks like it is an interpretation of Rumi’s interpretation of the Erin Wasson look…which is to say that it is an Alexander Wang copy filtered through the thrift shop and two or three times removed from the source.
I’m sure this line will be a huge success, but I personally don’t like these garments for the same reason I don’t like those hipster vintage shops on eBay — why oh why would someone pay out the nose for a look that is so easily achievable with a trip to a thrift shop and a smidge of creativity?
Oh and also: thanks for noticing the shadow effects in those pics on my blog! I don’t know much about photography, but I had some fun playing with the ISO settings, and thought it came out kind of cool. 🙂
AUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSIE oi oi oi
ahhhh I love Maurie and Eve, go us. 🙂
the new line is fantastic, they have this red strip swing dress which is to DIE for, the best thing is its ll reasonably priced.
pro-choice is amazing, YOU are amazing :)x
p.s i know you werent really supporting Maurie & Eve as such, but the collection they have done is wearable in Aus, and really fits into the culture i live in. so i wanted to give it a shout :)X
The poses/lighting/settings are totally Rumi-esque, but man, that model up there needs to close her damn mouth! ugh.
Im sorry i missed the pro choice post but im commenting on it now.
I just wanna say, i think you are completely inspirational, and you dress like no one else out there. in a good way. i love your style so much. even though i love the trio (camille, rumi, karla) i really think people need to get over them and go to other bloggers out there that deserve just as many comments, if not more. i can think of as many as 3 that could replace the first trio.
maybe this is not your point in your post, but i feel this way so much. people need to expand their blog vocabulary, so to speak, and go out and see other blogs. i sort of feel like blogs should advertise other blogs too. i dont know. eeek.
I have the first dress and it’s awesome, great aus brand and really well priced
I agree with AngieMontreal, the clothes are quite nice ( and here they are reasonably priced which makes me wonder what sort of prices they will ask in the us…)..but the models expressions are PAINFUL. Your Pro choice blog was really awesome i believe that a lot of people in general need to let go of their ‘trend’ bias and embrace ye old ‘inner expression through fashion’!!!
Your Pro-Choice post really spoke to me. Oftentimes I have browsed the flurry of popular fashion photo blogs out there and felt somewhat jaded, not because the posts weren’t stylish, but because it felt like i was looking at the online version of a popular sisterhood, all of who were all exercising their membership in an unspoken pact to dress in the same, albeit stylish way. I don’t contend that their style suits them, and I’m not saying that they’re unoriginal, but I’ve always looked upon you, susie, as a breath of fresh air amongst the stylish monotony out there. It’s bloggers like you that give the fashion-lovers, the wallflowers and style underdogs out there the courage and inspiration to take pride in their passion. Looking at your obvious love for dressing-up, your kooky but always cool choices, that’s when I get back my faith in making my own choices and taking pride in them, be they in the realm of fashion or otherwise. So keep doing what you’re doing, and keep wearing what you want to wear, I do think that’s the reason why your readers (me included) love you so.
LOL…of all the Australian shoots to feature on stylebubble! *hopes people don’t think we’re all mono-browed people ridden with angst* 😛
wowzer is all i have to say. loving the tie dye
First: gorgeous pictures.
Second: I feel as if I have missed so much by not having Internet for a week.
Third: People are idiots.
Fourth: I agree with you, except I DO think you have the pretty gene.
Fifth: I’m going to stop numbering things now…
I really appreciated your pro-choice post, I’m suprised people aren’t more accepting of different styles.
But I don’t think those photographs are a direct rip-off of Fashion Toast’s photos and style. That style is pretty common now, Fashion Toast is hardly original in that sense.
I didn’t comment on that post you mentioned either, but I read it of course.. And I would also say that you are a very influential blogger. You know how I came across your blog? I read about it in Glamour magazine. I often feel that with so many blogs as there are, one has to be really unique to stand out.
Anywho I really like the sandals in the second picture. I bet they’d go with everything.
Off topic… but have you seen these reversible shoes??! I’m in love!! And I knew all you you Stylebubble fans would appreciate 🙂

GO pro choice- well said! 🙂
I really like that dress in the second picture!
And I want to thank you for adding my blog into your blog list. But, and I really don’t mean to be a bother, it isn’t the right link.
It’s just supposed to be “Style Tabloid” at
http://styletab.blogspot.com/
The link you put up is actually just a blog with all of our “about” and “info” pages. Sorry about the confusion!
Hey Susie!
My favorite thing about your blog and your style?
I NEVER KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT.
And that’s such a rarity these days.
Oh but Susie you are influential! Have you seen the sheer boned skirt by boutique at topshop? Looks awfully like your cage skirts…
funny, i saw a WWD spread the other day and thought “Susie Bubble” + “Kingdom of Style.”
I’m actually finding this Maurie and Eve campaign kind of sick – like all of a sudden their glamorizing the “high on rocks street walker”….it’s kind of sad.
