It’s been a loooong wait but the third issue of Plastique, which launched back in April 2007 with quite a bit of fanfare, is finally here… with three different covers to separate and a slightly changed look but still sticking to the bold typography and image-led layout…
Ok, it’s a bit shameless but I have written a total of six articles for this issue of Plastique so alas, the post isn’t just to say ‘Hey look…another glossy mag….’. I’ve never written SO much for on single mag, so I’m thankful to Brylie (the editor in chief) that she gave me the chance to ramble on and gush over Alexis Mabille, Francesco Scognamiglio, the all-new Bally, Emilio de la Morena, Felder Felder and biggie with Antonio Berardi where I enjoyed a great phoner with the man who gave me much insight into that 90s generation of LFW stars (Berardi, McQueen and Chalayan…).
Brylie, who is a stylist by nature, in general has a knack for making me curious about things in a mag and as usual, I went through making mental notes about things to research more or buy if I have the ability…
Lucy Wightwick, a Brighton grad from this year got some glossy exposure with this sheer white/cut-out dress…
The aesthetic of goat hair continues to intrigue me with these Pierre Hardy shoes // The only vaguely attainable thing are these new-season Dr Martens styles (all-white Marceaux and the black patent Bianca-boot) have the edge over the usual Dr Martens fare
Google isn’t shedding much light on Alun Davies (a Welsh politician goes by the same name…) so I’ll have to ask Brylie more about his incredible adorned helmets…
Atalanta Weller is a name that I’m eager to see MORE from because everyone knows the name and her collaborative work well (namely House of Holland) but everytime I see her own stuff, I just wonder when is she going to get her website on track // Luella’s ribbon dress just reminded me that cascading looping grosgrain wide ribbons is defintiely going to be my next DIY project (arrival date of spanking new sewing machine… in about two weeks time!!!)
Oh, and the backcover is in contrast to other glossies where ads usually dominate. I do love when independent mags begin with a low ad percentage in general (think of the first issue of Lula…)… just need to get over my fear of animal prints.
Yes – the new DMs have caught my eye too. There are some good white ones with pointed toes. Much more affordable than the Y Yamamoto ones methinks!
Today I saw an old lady in a floor-length leopard skirt and button-down shirt.

oooh this was my first magazine purchase when i got to manchester and though ‘omg even the corner shops stock magazines like this?!’ i remember it having a strange image on the back. definitely picking up a copy of this, i do like the look of those white stockings
oohhh the white sheer dress is beautiful and i really want a pair of doc martins but my friends keep laughing at the thought of them!
