Harsher Ruffles

Another week, more ruffle-spotting and remembering.  I had to take note of Emma Cook‘s shoes last week, when I was trailing Cathy Edwards (fashion director of Another magazine) who was styling Emma’s SS09 show.  I took note because currently in Topshop, the chunky AW08-9 biker boots are in stock which means next season, her ruffled shoes that I snapped below will be put into production and sold in Topshop as opposed to a lot of the mind blowing show shoes (Christopher Kane’s rhino horn shoes par example…) that just won’t be available to buy for love or money.

Then Helena Horstedt whose work I’ve been a staunch follower of and whose SS09 collection lookbook will be out VERY soon, and her AW08-9 origami-filled collection popped into my head.  Of course Emma’s simirlarly zipper-edged ruffle dress makes a lot more sense as a pairing but I love the softer muted colours of Emma Cook’s SS09 shoes acting as a balance to Helena Horstedt’s sculptural black.

  1. Those black dresses are amazing, and the shoes are pretty cool too! Together they are positively smashing!

  2. swoooon….here I was feeling dejected about London Fashion Week and then you go an spring these beauts on me. I can see you working your zipper neck plate with these…a little OTT…but hey, it works!

  3. I love those shoes – though my MA-Hassive feet would make those ruffles look grotesque. But hey — grotesque can be a *look*.
Those illustrations are great, by the way. Is she your sister? Her website is well cool!

  4. Amazing outfits and amazing shoes. Those origami-like fabric folds must’ve taken ages to create!

  5. Helena certainly has some talent and I can see why you’ve been following her. Those dresses are beautiful, reminds of Gail Sorronda in a more hard edged way.

  6. I love all the zipper edging going around. It’s about time the humble zipper took on a different role. Those shoes are fantastic.

  7. They’re like…a Miu Miu version of the Prada ruffle shoes.
That is, if Miu Miu went biker in S/S09.
We can only hope and pray…..
