JRR stands by her man

>> I know, I know, Fashionista-esque tattle tale is so unbecoming but I was pretty chuffed and curious when I heard Julia Restoin Roitfeld was getting involved in her own little indie mag project The Last but then this little interview popped into my inbox and it seems Mademoiselle Roitfeld has poo-poo-ed the news straight off the bat, saying:

‘THIS PROJECT IS NOT MINE.
ITS ALL MY BOYFRIEND’S AND HIS BUSINESS PARTNER’S WORK AND IDEA. DON’T BELEIVE WHAT YOU READ IN FASHIONISTA.COM!!
MAYBE ONE DAY I WILL CONTRIBUTE AND I’D LOVE TO, BUT RIGHT NOW I AM INVOLVED IN THIS PROJECT THE SAME WAY A PRESIDENT’S WIFE SUPPORT HER HUSBAND! ITS ALL ABOUT MORAL SUPPORT AND GIVING MY OPINION.’

Actually, her capital letter anti-publishing declarations continue throughout the brief interview which in itself has some question marks over it.

‘FASHION IS MORE MY FAMILY BACKGROUND.
I GREW UP IN IT AND ITS HARD TO ESCAPE. BUT ITS NOT MY MAIN FOCUS’

When asked whether she’d follow in her mother’s footsteps…

‘NO, THATS HER THING AND SHE IS THE BEST OF THE INDUSTRY AT IT, I WILL LEAVE IT TO HER.’

End of tittle tattling… back to work…

  1. I know it’s slightly rude to say here but I seriously, seriously can’t stand Fashionsita!
I don’t know if it’s the entitlements those girls feel they deserve for writing a blog or what but the fact that anyone uses them as a source is beyond me!

  2. I can’t say I’m the biggest Fashionista fan either…posts either make me chortle or cringe… it’s the comments that really crack me up though…

  3. I like that she called out Fashionista, but I don’t want ruin your comments by airing my qualms. So, I’ll say I’m kind of sad she isn’t the one starting the fashion magazine, but it’s nice that she doesn’t feel obligated to be part of the fashion/magazine industry because of her familial ties.

  4. I think Julia is the bees knees.
That site has definitely taken a dive in the last few months, but I still read it everyday because it’s sort of like a trainwreck. And every now and then they have a hidden gem.

  5. "Fashionista-estque tattle tale is so unbecoming"
Thanks for saying what I've been thinking. That is all.

  6. Ahh I hate Caps Lock. Okay I have to know – what does chuff mean exactly? I have only ever used it in reference to the sound that okapis make.

  7. i am so over fashionista. they are always so full of themselves. seriously, what are these girls thinking?!
as to jrr: i like the fact that she’s very outspoken, and how she’s doing her own thing. thanks for posting, susie.

  8. Fashiontoast: Chuffed=pleased. It’s only really ever used in that past tense way….e.g. I’m really pleased with that=I’m really chuffed with that…
This will be my very few fashionista-esque tattle tale posts…. had to be done though…

  9. I used to like Fashionista too, and I must confess that I enjoy reading their posts, but since Faran left to work to Nylon, things are getting more boring

  10. don’t get all the fashionista hate though I’ve just started reading it recently, ie post-Faran. I think all their comments are pretty tongue and cheek and they write because they like it. I don’t get any sense of entitlement. And i’m glad JRR isn’t doing a mag. You want to talk about entitlement? Why should she get a gig producing a new mag? I know she didn’t, but I’m glad. There are so many amazing indie mags out there as it is, doing great interesting editorials. And while Julia styles herself in a somewhat interesting way, her graphic design skills were a bit lacking in my opinion.
