I am writing this in the comfort of a warm duvet, with the central heating on full blast and am shaking my head in bafflement as two days ago I was skipping around in light jackets and short sleeved t-shirts and yesterday in knee high socks when today, I woke up….
to this…
BBC now says it is currently cloudy and will be sleeting today. Sleet/cloud my arse. This is full-on snow in bloody April!
Whilst I’m going to be hauling on the knits again and lamenting over the inability to wear peep toe shoes, the upside is that it is suddenly very relevant to post the work of Lucian Broscatean, a student that I taught last year at the Arts of Fashion masterclasses in Miami. He hails from Romania and is currently studying at the University of Art and Design Cluj-Napoca. If you can read Romanian, Google will show up a fair bit of info on Lucian. Most recently, he showed his work at the Romanian Embassy in Paris and also exhibited at Moscow Fashion Week with this, (and I couldn’t have blogged about a more aptly named collection on this snowy day…) URBAN NOMADS knitwear collection for AW08-9.
The term URBAN NOMAD will probably conjure up images of homelessness for a lot of people but for me it perfectly describes the ever evolving/changing nature and the voracious desire for the ‘novel’ that people experience, living in cities. The confusing element of the knitwear is like an essential component of the ‘unform for survival’ as it were, for an urban nomad.
Now, where to find a bajillion grey knitted scarves to wrap myself up ‘snow ninja’ style because as I type, the snow is falling even heavier than when I woke up…
Time for a cup of tea and a re-watch of Saturday Morning Kitchen (yes, I’m a freak who has no TV and watches everything via the internet…god bless 40D and BBC iPlayer)

the Hyeres Festival must seem even more inviting a prospect right now from the depths of your duvet! If your “snow ninja” materializes, do share…
I love the styling in these pics……clothes look warm comfy and soooo wearable!!!
The snow is beatiful…..I should take advantage and do a photoshoot today in the snow!!!
Eeek! That weather is crazy. Snow ninjas are hot…we used to have “yard ninjas” when we lived in HI. I never understood how they dressed like that in hot weather, but in PA the layers make total sense to me on a chill day…
Definitely bad weather when both you and Queen Marie are complaining about April snow – despite my not ever meeting snow physically I can safely say I do not want to be in your situation of absolute brr-ness right now! But look on the bright side, as above comments suggest you can always channel the ninja look today. (:
OH MY GOSH! That looks insanely cold. I live in Sydney, Australia so Im not used to snow, it looks very cold though. We are coming up to winter soon so i am a little excited to be under my duvet with a heater on like you 😀
i’m pretty sure you must have swapped weather with us in australia… it was meant to be really cold today but it ended up being warm and sunny. what’s with that?
Wow, snow in April is insane. I love the collection you posted, just the right kind of outfit you would need on a day like that!
Hopefully you get to stay inside all day!
What gloomy, sad weather….
Our weathers are at extremes this year. We’re supposed to be getting prepared for winter here in New Zealand, and summer for your part of the world. But neither has happened, and it’s still muggy hot where I am!
gosh ya it’s so freakin cold! I was so surprised to see all this snow aswell! dannng
oh, it was like that in Sweden a week ago too, but now we have springweather, just a bit cloudy..
Crappy England, just when you’re getting in the mood for spring outfits, it snows! It was sunny a minute ago here in Yorkshire then started snowing. Rude.
The weather will change to good again in the same quickness it got bad! The same thing happened here a few days ago now we are in the +10’s!
oh well over here we’re longing for snow though we’ll never ever get it… the outfits make me want to snuggle (how cosy is this word?) under my sheets!
it was so nice reading this post about lucian’s collection! i also live in cluj and know about him from a local magazine 🙂 i had no idea you also know & appreciate his designs!
Looks like Canada today 🙂
I love that urban nomad gear…
weather in london seems to be crazy hah
oh, and i love all that thick, drapey stuff from “urban nomad”, i just really like clothes with a lot of thick, heavy volume (ex. yohji yamamoto and sonia rykiel)
i also like how it looks a bit mod but not the usual tight, futuristic kind of mod…
it’s a winter wonderland here too!
oh dear!
i love your pics… very sweet!
lucian is just so talented and such a character, i know its much but he promised so much, i like to think of him as the alexander mcqueen of romanian …
Rehashing. The Face, anyone ?
love this post
