You know you feel old and a bit of a blogger ‘has-been’ when young sprightly things are starting up online magazines like Prim which just launched a few days ago. With contributions from a few of my fave bloggers, and by tapping into the fashion-obsessive who aren’t laden with money bags by featuring a lot of vintage and thrifty streetstylers, quite frankly, Prim does the job well without saying more or less than it needs too and a little like an edited, less crafty version of Neet. Quite frankly, I’m ready to retire and hang my hat up as this blog plods along without anything as newly-fandangled as an e-zine.
Even the ads are not irritating as they have now given me MORE eBay browsing to do as various vintage eBay sellers have ads in the mag with useful click-through links. Some I know, some I’ve bought from, some I hadn’t a clue about. Good thing the MySpace ban has been lifted in my office….

hey susie,
for some reason the last two advertisements have the text cut of when I enlarge the image.
I am sure this is the same for everyone. is it possible to re-do or post what the sellers info/name is.
thanks so much
xo
Have fixed it!
oh i love ebayshops.
spanishmoss is one of my favs as well. i think she looks so fantastic as well as she sells great clothes.
I wish you a great week!
This zine looks like some sort of high school project. And it could really, I mean really use a graphic artist. The text is pretty awful too.
Overall, I am not impressed at all and I do not think anybody should be, unless perhaps I cannot see the hidden qualities of this? When the best part of a zine is the advertisement…
Fair comments, E, but the point is, the people who put Prim together are high school students… or not that much older…. I’m 24 and haven’t been that enterprising with the blog and what I could do with it…. but these are 17-20 yr olds who have taken the time to put something together…. I wouldn’t be so hard on them!
It’s not bad for high schoolers, that is true. However, they were not exactly presented like what they were in your article, were they ? I was expecting to be blown away… You might have over hyped them a bit! 😉
Yes they are pretty crafty, but so are many, many high school students. Perhaps we should give more credit to young persons in general and stop being so impressed whenever they prove somewhat capable.
On a funny note, I remember that the 11 years old girl I used to babysit as a teen could actually prepare and cook a whole chicken all by herself… She had better cooking skills than many young adults I have met! I was impressed. Still, my mother assures me that when she was a child, such a level of skill was very common for girls that young.
Anyway, you offer a much more polished reading and should not feel ready for early retirement anytime soon!
Oooh yes they did a great job, lots of nicely familiar faces and good photo shoots.
PS, thank you for putting my picture on your site . . . My heart just skipped a beat, I swear!
It’s not the design that I have a problem with, so much as the sub-par editorials. I suppose it’s refreshing to see high school students concerned about matters like animal testing…but still…NEET is far superior.
those are my lips on that cover. i just about peed myself when i saw my face on your site!
Skinny angels forever ;* Luv ya Danne
not that most people read magazines, but i couldn’t read anything! but it was a refreshing bit of content, and i do love all those ebay sellers, very cool.
I liked it!
i think zines are a great idea. I recently ordered some paper zines, and i can’t wait for them to arrive..
i loved it. i don’t think it deserves criticicm either. there were some lovely pictures to look at and i found the content entertaining. thought they did a great job.
God I hope 24 does mean old because that means I’m getting there and I only started blogging a couple of months ago!!
Please don’t hang up your hat. Leave it on your head!
I quite like all the craftiness of NEET mag, as well as all the Etsy ads. It’s actually a really sweet read.
BUT I just don’t understand the fashion spreads – they’re missing captions. And the editor states at the back of the magazine that they can’t supply any information about what the models are wearing. Huh?
Am I missing something or am I just getting too old for this postmodern caper? Halp.
Whoooo! I had no clue this cute little spread was sitting on your blog.. Yes, all great sellers featured. Thanks for posting this!
xx

E: Hmmm…chicken…. it’s 9am in the morning and I want roast chicken goddamnit!
Neet is a lot more polished but I don’t think Prim. is trying to be that polished…. because it is a little on the lo-fi side….
Top Bird: Did you mean Neet mag has no captions or Prim?
Really like this magazine. Definitely going to have a look at some of the vintage Ebay stores.

it does rather excite me, all of this “new ages of journalism” business(whether that’s true we’ll have to see..)
i’m very flattered that I’m among your “few fave bloggers”, thanks!
although I’m rather a lurker these days, yours is certainly on my great reads list.
just had a read through the comments.
whilst i agree with E about expecting more, I thought the graphics could have been better considering the rest of the format (the turning pages) was great, I know a lot of person were involved and worked hard (yep, me too!) and I kind of like the homemade style of it, like fiddly and glue-sticky zines of the noughties!
just judging by the next prim cover which has already been released, and some of the names gracing the pages, I’m thinking it will progress well.
just look how purple started..
love it! Cant believe it was made by (just-out-of) high schoolers. Awesome.
Oh Susie, 24 is never too old! Where would we be if Zandra Rhodes or Vivienne Westwood said, “too old!” You do a superlative job at what you do, not least of which is pointing us in the right direction to add to our library of style references.
i felt the artcle about ‘it girls’ was well written, clever and funny. and there was something really cool about the unpolished, informal style of prim.
i can’t believe someone can be so picky, when the clothes are good and links work!
