‘What?! No website?! In this day and age?!’
I believe, when I last wrote about Tim Ryan’s beautiful knitwear, people were intrigued to Google his name only to find…. well… not much information/images. Whilst Ryan hasn’t set up a website yet, it does mean that seeing his new AW08-9 collection is even more of a treat.
He delved into 1970s’ vision of pretty flappers for SS08 but it gets a little darker, slightly more severe and dare I say a little bit ‘Wuthering Heights’ next season. Exactly what I want from my knitwear, a genre that can all too easily fall into being softy/pretty. There’s an exaggerated dramaticism that Ryan has taken a risk with this season, whether it be in the voluminous sleeves or the crow-like feather effects on the sleeves and hem. There’s a dark romanticism that has been infused in the designs and I’m sure Catherine would be most pleased to be roaming around in these dresses, as would I, especially in the feathered sleeves and hem ensemble…. with my black crow on my head…. and some stomping studded platform shoes… yes…. the Halifax locals would surely appreciate all of that…

Beautiful dresses!
Your right, it’s so refreshing to see a knitwear pushed in a different direction! Tim Ryan or no Tim Ryan, the crow must make a return pronto!
That last dress is so beautiful. I really like the model too actually.
great pieces
strong and somehow unexpected
Like the last dress, would wear that to a party.

wow…those are gorgeous. especially the first sleevless dress, it’s so simple but still effective.
I like the crazy puffy sleeves.
Oh, beautiful! As a semi-retired knitter, I’m always drawn to knitwear to see if I can figure it out. I lovelovelove the last piece with the scalloped lace and the eyelets over the bodice, and the embellished wrap sweaters (with the puff sleeves and with the fur/feathers). Gorgeous! (So of course now I’m peering at them more closely — “raglan sleeve, no front neck shaping…”)
Tim Ryan sells his stuff through Ave Maria on Clarendon Street in Dublin just in case you’re ever over). His new stuff is so much nicer/better than previous seasons http://www.rte.ie/tv/offtherails/20050126section6.html
Tim Ryan hasn’t sold in Ave Maria for a long time, he has been selling in Brown Thomas in Dublin, and it seems now lots of other stores in Europe and the States.
It is weird he doesn’t have a website and a pity cause when you do google you find lots of really old pics.
Wow, some useful info coming forth…. I think the best thing to do would be to contact the man himself who is now based in London, about stockists

I think the model gives the clothes an air of severe romanticism. They’re beautifully constructed though, especially the last dress, I think that with all the chunky, huge knits of recent seasons it’s been easy to forget that knitwear can look so delicate and intricate.
Loved your Feb 3rd post and now these – really stunning, whether the simple blocks of colour in the first (like a 3D “wear palettes”) or the drama of the other silhouettes. His interpretations of the intricate beaded patterns of the 20’s (in SS08 line and esp. the last dress here) are genius….even more exciting though that he doesn’t get caught up in such minutia alone but can seemingly take his craft in any direction he wishes. Do you know if he’s done any collections before these?
I just love this model. It’s so refreshing to see a model who isn’t a teenager.
I’m loving the second jersey, and the bottom outfit, I like the old fashioned lacey detail. That is something I would definitely buy if it looked decent on me.
i love the pieces. and i love the model. i want the last dress. and i love that other people are loving this model. Meg’s “severe romanticism” is a nice phrase.
That first dress is absolutely stunning. I love it.
Wow, it’s nice to see knitwear taken to this directory. The first dress is my personal favorite.
I don’t “love” the model, I don’t think she even looks like a model. I dunno, maybe the “photographer” is just crap.
