Wherefore art thou, Preen?

Preenmag I can’t lie.  I’m a spoilt brat when it comes to fashion magazines seeing as I have pretty much MOST of them at my disposal from being in London via the avenues of big Borders/RD Franks/Magma/Clare de Rouen and the Japan Centre/Chinatown/New Malden if I need an Asia Pacific fix… (still no sign of Korean Elle Girl or Vogue Girl though…).  However, one publication is alluding me and just refuses to show up no matter how much I cajole the mag deities.  I talked up Preen magazine a while ago and they kindly sent me their first few issues, thus taunting me with their beautiful images and out-of-box styling.

Their latest spring 2008 issue 6 is now out yet it still has not managed to show up over here yet.  I’ve taken to going throught he shelves meticulously just in case they turn up behind another magazine, and visiting the SUPERSIZE magazine newsagents on Old Compton Street and Theobalds Road yet I’ve seen nothing.  Images via TFS will have to suffice and this Op-Topic editorial  (photographed by Peter Stanglmayr, styled by Avena Gallagher) featuring Andressa Fontana, as well as making the eyes go a bit funny still impresses me with an eclectic mix of Norma Kamali, Margiela, Sandoval and Uniqlo (officially the high street shop that dominates my wardrobe weirdly enough…)….

  1. I spied this like two weeks ago and I have to say that’s a wonderful cover. I even shot a photo of it with my phone to write about later. I love TFS for scanning in every one of my favorite mags like this.

  2. Susie, I can send you a copy – my local store carries it. It’s the least I can do for all the pleasure your blog has brought me. Email me if you want.

  3. Hi – I was actually just going to make the same offer that Jen B. made… she beat me to it! 🙂
But, if any reason you ever still need help getting a copy – I would be happy to help… just send me an email! -Abby

  4. i love preen so much. the photos are always stunning.
i’m currently in search of the new lula. i feel your pain!

  5. Wow, that cover is gorgeous. This is going to sound weird, but has having a fake moustache ever been a trend, even a very short-lived one? I tried it the other day, and my friend looked at me like I was insane. Ha, this is a pretty serious question.
Also, I want the oufit with the sculptural wedges and Mini Mouse dress. Cute!

  6. I lovveee that last one with that hat and yohji skirt
living in Japan its a pain lookiing for the the mag you want, like, one month its sellihg at your local convenience store, the next it isn’t selling anywhere

  7. Normally at a newsagent you can order in a magazing if its on their “books” which most are. Just ask them, then they’ll order it in for you every month. However if you don’t want an issue they get a little angry if you don’t buy it.
I am lucky here in Melbourne too. We have a few Japanese magazine shops and then a huge store called Magnation that sells all the uk/usa and europe magazines you could ever want.

  8. you seem to wear more topshop than uniqlo, i hardly hear you mention them especially in regards to your wardrobe

  9. I might try getting someone to order it in… it is odd that RD Franks don’t carry it…
Thanks for your offers of sending it through but I will try my own means of procuring it…. or harassing Preen magazine might help!
JJ: If you count the number of items, Uniqlo actually does outweight Topshop (if I don’t count the Unique/Designer stuff as that’s not really normal Topshop…)…many days of uni temping that required office wear and me running into Uniqlo to stock up….
