Observe This

Observer1 Tell my parents I was in Grazia magazine and they look at me blankly and say ‘Um…that’s nice dear!’.  Tell them I’m in the Observer magazine and they start firing off questions like ‘When is it out?  What have they written?  We need to buy up the whole newsagents!’.

Within the Observer magazine’s 50 most powerful blogs, there Style Bubble sits at number 48.  What?!  There are blogs outside of those related to fashion?!  Yes, and significantly more powerful too…. Huffington Post got the number one spot where comments of over 1,000 build up and they talk about things which go way way way over my head… so to have a wee fashion blog even in the list is quite a surprise….  Fashion blog wise, The Sartorialist sits at 20 (quite rightly so…), Go Fug Yourself (fashion or gossip?  hmmm…) at 30 and Dirty Dirty Dancing at 32 (blog or not? hmmm….).  Four fashion blogs out of fifty just goes to show that the blogosphere as a whole is bigger/scarier than I very naively thought…. I’m now enlightend and will promptly check out Chocolate and Zucchini, a food blog (I always thought that if I didn’t blog about fashion, I’d do a ‘What I ate today’ blog…).

Anyhow, here I am in my room, with seriously messy hair, stripy tights and feeling a lot comfier than any other shoot I’ve done…

Hopefully the mothership isn’t going to ask ‘Why do you look orange?’ this time…

  1. Thats funny, I was just reading the list online (and thus didn’t see the pic included!) and thought ‘susie better be in here!’ Congrats on the recognition. I had no idea you got 10,000 views a day! eek!

  2. Yay; congratulations Susie!! I used to obsess over the ice cream photos on Chocolate and Zucchini. I saved them into a folder on my computer for whenever I craved ice cream.

  3. Congrats Susie- that pic’s so nice I wondered if the boyf had taken it!
Observer seems to have an odd idea about what constitutes a blog though.. i would’ve thought that DDD and popjustice were both definitely websites (but the the media seems to have forgotten that word)

  4. “Least likely to post ‘I even wear my Ugg boots in bed'”
ugh! What a horrible thought! But anyway, congratulations, Susie, and thank you for your wonderful blog πŸ™‚

  5. amazing photo, as i said already. i love the monochrome theme.
and the mention is sure to boost your readership even higher.
i also desperately want those silver shoes!

  8. Congrats! Chocolate and zucchini is great, if you like food blogs check out nordljus.co.uk or brandoesq.blogspot.com as well, but not without biscuits on hand.

  9. Trust me Bubble, Huffington Post is not nearly as interesting as this blog.

  10. You, I am not talking to you anymore, I just read your post and had to walk up the co-op in the rain to get the observer! and forgot my fags so am in ultra bad mood as can’t go out again) only joking – well done babe!

  11. Susie your blog is great, not always crazy about some of the dos but as an influencer you are way up there!

    Una vez mas felicitaciones.

  14. Congratulations! What a great accomplishment! πŸ™‚ One of the 50 most powerful blogs worldwide!
I’ve just recently discovered this blog (obviously not one of the fastest people around!), but I’m enjoying it a lot:)

  15. Oh…you’ve also been in a German magazine…I’m not sure, which magazine it was, but as soon as I’ll find it, I’ll send you the article!

  16. Congrats! You’re looking great and your inspiration wall is perfect, as well as that stash of magazines next to you!

  17. Yes, my shriek of “hooorah” upon seeing this cover quickly silenced as I realised just how large the blog world is.
Sadly I’d only heard of about 10, and there was me thinking I was some kind of expert on the area..
But well done again; as much as I love a good flick through Grazia, it’s nice to make the pages of a more worthy read.

  18. OMG OMG OMG
    *does happy shrieky dance*
This is brilliant, Susie! The entire list of blogs is amazing, most of them are ones I know and love, and you deserve this.
PS: The stripy tights and your room are perfect. I know mean Taiwanese girls at fashion shows may not like the former, but they’ll always have my love πŸ™‚

  19. I saw it in and instantly knew I read the Observer for a good reason!!!…Apart from a desire to better myself and learn about the world of course =) Well done though, it’s very exciting!

  20. Oi oi oi oi oi! Thank you, thank you, thank you…. the parentals were very happy… though they did the natural Chinese family thing which was to ask ‘Only 48?’ to which I sighed and shook my head. I’m still mighty chuffed…. if ppl think it’s stupid that I’m chuffed… then that’s ok…because I’ll still be chuffed!
Thank you everyone for reading Style Bubble and yes it has been tough lately but there is light at the end of tunnel and it is shining onto my stripy tights and silver lace-up shoes!

  21. Hurrah for Style Bubble! Seriously well done – it might be hard, hard work at times but : ) !

  22. Great Susie!
You are 48 only for the moment… next year you are the first!
    Congratulations from your italian fan!

  23. I saw this yesterday and I was like, ooh I bet Style Bubble is in this, and I was right! You look so sweet in the picture, congrats Susie.

  24. I saw the cover saying top 50 blogs and I knew I would find you on it. To miss you out would be nothing short of a crime!

  25. YAY! Congrats! I’d kill to be in a magazine, but I’d rather work for one! πŸ™‚

  26. Susie, that’s fabulous! Congrats, as you can see, we’re all estastic for you.

  27. Congratulations. Yours was one of the first fashion blogs I ever read, and it was a source of inspiration for me. I don’t know why you weren’t on the top of that list though.

  28. Congratulations on this feature!
I admire and can completely understand your reluctance to get *too* involved in the fashion industry. I attended some great shows in Paris in October 2007, but I also held back from a few due to feelings of insecurity. Similarly, I had to escape from a few showroom events as I couldn’t hack the atmosphere. I ended up feeling bad about my hair, my shoes… even my personality. I really had to shake myself by the shoulders.
Although it’s easy for anyone to say ‘you shouldn’t feel bad about yourself’, I can relate to those feelings you had. However, in my opinion, you have a great fashion profile and I love the way you can dabble in the industry without it being over-consuming.
    Keep up the great writing
    Catharine x

  29. Congratulations Susie!! What a great achievement and very well deserved!! You’ll be the most powerful on my list πŸ˜‰
