Do you like fish soup? I do but if you don’t, that’s ok because this post doesn’t really have anything to do with soup or fish (if interested though, I’m really into the soupe de poisson at Randall & Aubin in Soho…). Instead, Soup & Fish is an e-shop based in Austria that sells past season goodies for men and women from a host of Austrian designers as well as other avant garde designers like Bernhard Willhelm, Martin Margiela and Viktor & Rolf. I discovered the shop via my boyfriend’s obsession with buying polaroid film on the Analog Photography shop hosted by Unsalelable. Unsalelable also happens to host Soup and Fish and from there an hour of Austrian designer links exploration ensued. Some like Florian Ladstaedter, Pelican Avenue and Hartmann Nordenholz I knew of. Others like Saskia Wendland and House of the Very Island I hadn’t a clue about (I think a designers’ dossier organised by country is in order…) so it was an educational hour spent.
It really is like a super edited, super selective version of Yoox in that a lot of the items for sale are past season, something that is really quite irrelevant when talking about these designers because the pieces aren’t necessarily trend-led but unique in their own way.
Their selection of pants also make me rethink my ‘no-online-trousers-buying’ policy because for fear of weird fit. However, trousers like the Saskia Wendland ones with gold panels and the Pelican Avenue dip dye ones have such a distinctive design that if they turn out to be a little ill-fitting, it wouldn’t bother me so much…

All the trousers are fab!! I don’t know how the Nordenholz would work on someone with some hippage (my sad attempt to coin a new word), but i love that green! It has so much depth to it.
Love the word ‘hippage’ – makes hips sound like a good thing…. which they are!
I want the Martin Margiela skirt!
I’ll have to have a look. those Margiela sneakers look pretty cool.
On a side note, it made my day to see that my french lessons are paying off. 🙂
I like the V&R pink shoes and the tiered skirt. It would be great to have the definitive list of designers by country.
Love this site! I was checking out the Claudia Rose Lukas last night….love the shading on the Pelican Ave leggings.
The Pelican Avenue blouse is just weird enough to satisfy my bird obsession. Their leggings, on the other hand, would come up to the boobs.
I like fish soup and eat it three times a week. Salmon.
Oooh, that leather skirt! I love the tiers of pleats on it!The Viktor & Rolf shoes and the stirrup pants are pretty cool too though…
Haha, and yes! If you ever wanted to employ my knitting skill, I’d be delighted to make something for you Susie 🙂
Oops! It was me who posted the above comment 🙂 I keep doing that!
Hey Susie, I think you may be the the only person who could pull of that mouse coat… But someone’s got to do it!
holy moly… i’m not much of a trouser wearin girl, but i’m really loving the stirrups.
thanks for finding this boutique. i’m amazed at your skills of finding all these shops!
awesome! i fell in love with the nordenholz dress a year ago in berlin.. and now we were reunited! thanks a lot for finding this!
I’m intrigued by the dip-dye leggings.
AMAZING SITE! I wrote about House of Very early last year but never expected to have the chance to get my paws on anything from them. Superb Susie!

the soup&fish pieces are super interesting! i wish i could afford them…
Each piece is so unique, oh how fun getting dressed would be with these! By why is original fashion so expensive?
all of those leggings make me 1) weep in envy, happyness and bitter lust because i will never own them and 2) make me want to make my own (if ill fitting) pairs.
The Margiela skirt and moon boots are great, but those prices are so very steep.
Susie, I hear that Polaroid is going to stop selling film SOON. If your bf doesn’t know this, you might want to advise him to buy up/stockpile whatever he can.
All the stuff in those shots is so great, I wish I had the guts to wear it!

i love that tiered skirt!
I must say, Fish and Soup makes me feel like I am in France. Or it might be your Title and the fact I am listening to Paris Combo. Either way, J’adore!
that tiered skirt is interesting…and my interest in t-bar shoes has suddenly bounced back!
They sure have a great selection!!! :-O
