CNY vs. LFW

It was a toss up between fashion and family and I chose the latter.  As I missed Chinese New Year, the day last week, I was of course obliged to celebrate with the family today despite it being the first day of London Fashion Week and despite missing some fab fab shows, there was no question that I’d be chowing down dim sum and receiving some much appreciated red packets.

Cnyout1 However, some people really did dress up for the occasion and noted the traditional colours with care.  My sister Yonnica for example did in fact dress up like a CNY decoration albeit with some shiny black and some wicked accessories that I had to keep quizzing her about (I miss not knowing all the minor details that are going on in my sisters’ lives….well and truly….).  I was all up in her face with ‘That watch!  That bag!  That dress!  Those tights!’.  Perhaps it’s me just forgetting that my sister has actually gone through the same stage of ‘Getting into fashion’ as I did and probably being the last to know.

Cnyout5 Now I know we had a discussion about kids getting into fashion and all that but I really couldn’t NOT snap this girl whose red patent swing coat and chopsticked bun caught my eye, causing me to chase after her and stoop down to ask if she wouldn’t mind having her picture taken.  The combination of her pink braces and black flicked eyeliner I guess says a lot about the the way kids mature these days but hey, I’m not about to judge and I’m not gonna be the one to take her cute outfit away from her (to top of the red patent coat, a grey ruffled mini dress, polka dot bloomer shorts underneath which you can’t see, grey tights and multistrapped silver high tops… ack…)

Her sister was also equally cute in a wonderful mulberry coloured embroidered Chinese jacket and trousers with a pale yellow jacket on top and what looks to be floral kids DM boots.  Just listing these items does make the mind boggle.  I’ll just put it down to CNY and pray that these kids aren’t this cool 365 days a year because that would really put me to shame…

  1. I wish I dressed like that when I was younger.
I mean, I’m still young, but not that young.
    That girl is awesome!

  2. God. Those two girls were at the Jean-Pierre Braganza show, all taking pictures and posing around. Actually, in a day of shows, i saw quite a few kids all cool in their ray-ban aviators / big cleavage / make up / pearls (all below the age of 12 i guess). And what about toddlers sitting front-row? (all adequately outfitted for “a day at the shows”)
I have mixed feeling about taking kids to fashion shows after this day.

  3. you managed to sneak one show in though didn’t you? i saw you at twosee – don’t deny it! x

  4. Oh, I love your sister’s watch! I see that great style is in the genes then.
I spent the day with family too(feasting on good food)…Gung Hei Fat Choi! xx

  5. Your sister is really pretty… haha really random, but true! I love her shoes.
    Happy Lunar New Year! 😀
(and you MUST have sneaked in one show… I have a gut feeling. :P)

  6. Waaow, you and your sis looks quite a bit alike 😀 How old is she? Oh, and Happy Chinese New Year!

  7. Your sister looks amazing- I’m glad you took a pic of the hem of her skirt, because that cutout applique (?) thing is an experiment I’d like to try myself. (is it an applique?)

  8. happy chinese new year!
i never looked so cool when i was a kid (or even now for that matter lol) and sometimes i wish that there were cooler items those days instead of the usual pink frilly or lacy type dresses which were too girly/ princessy for my taste.

  9. Your sis’s shoes rock!
I looooonged to have nice clothes as a child, but my parents’ choice of wardrobe reduced me to a grey tracksuit wearing urchin. The best thing I had was a reversible Mickey Mouse sweatshirt and the occasional not-too-flouncy dress.
I know, I know. Poor old me 🙁

  10. That is crazy I saw the same exact girl on the tube yesterday morning and couldn’t believe her outfit.
    London is small.

  11. Mmmmm… Dim Sum.
Your sister’s shoes are indeed great, I am partial to a bit of shiny patent.
If your sis won’t let you borrow her watch .. you can pick one up at Urban Outiftters.
    Enjoy fashion week!

  12. i have the same top as the girl on the right 😀 it’s from camden market, i love it so much but i think the seller actually ripped me off because she knew I was foreign =O

  13. your sister is just as lovely as you, dear Suzie.
And I think Yonnica is a cute name:) Glad you are enjoying New Year as much as I do. Cheers

  15. Love your sister’s watch! And that has got to be the best dressed kid I’ve ever seen. Seriously, I wish I dressed as well as her!

  16. Dru: It’s a cut-out embroidery effect I think…
Indeed… I made it to one show…more about that later when I can d/l my photos…
The shoes are from Hong Kong… I think I posted about them when Yonni bought them ages ago….
Can’t believe those kids were at the JPB show…and on the tube later… and near Wardour Street…London is teensy!

  17. I just bought a faux patent red leather jacket similar to that a few days ago! 🙂 Is it bad that the little girl has given me a bit of inspiration on how to wear it! Lol. Your sister is so cute, like you.
Those two kids make me ashamed of myself. 🙁

  18. A quick browse of the comments reveals one fact still missing – what watch is that???
I’ve been eyeing a white digital for some time.

  19. those girls are so cute!

    it’s really sad.

  20. Hi!!
That girl’s shoes are from office,
i have a black pair that i got in the january sales for about 20 quid, but i think schuh should have them on sale, cos they were about 35 quid at the time.
    =]

  21. So much zany fashion! I wish I had the guts to try stuff like that. It looked like a lot of fun.
