It may seem a little odd to be talking about sunnies when for a lot of people the sun is about the most distant thing from their minds ever, discounting winter sunshine. However, early bird gets the worm and all that and after taking a peek at the Linda Farrow showroom, the number of collaborations they have done with designers for SS08 is astounding and it does mean that I’m already trying to figure out what sunnies I want to get dibs on, both for myself and friends. The list goes *takes deep breath* Dries Van Noten, Raf Simons, Luella, Erdem, Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony, Chaiken, Rodarte, House of Holland, Veronique Branquinho, Charles Anastase, Sophia Kokosalaki, Bernhard Willhelm, Jeremy Scott and Matthew Williamson. Some are new collaborations and the list will grow even more for next season.
Superbranded sunglasses never interested me so much as interesting design. Therefore I love that Linda Farrow Vintage injects both retro/nostalgia and contemporary madcap designs into their collaborations and of course everything is done to compliment the designers’ clothes. The prices are also suitably less superbrand, with nothing topping ¬£200 and at the top of my dibs list are the genius Bernhard Willhelm ‘nose’ glasses priced at ¬£75. You ‘nose’ it….!
Luella’s geek glasses and the black version of the heroine mask were out (supposedly on loan for a Lindsay Lohan cover…) but I’m rather liking the white version of the mask glasses… Erickson Beamon the jeweller has also introduced sunglasses for the first time
Rodarte’s bow glasses are sweetly surreal, much like their collection // Chaiken
These House of Holland sunnies are simply called the Agyness for obvious reason… I don’t think she’s the only one who can pull them off though…

Eley Kishimoto always impress me with their accessories and this season is no exception.
It’s a bit old hat but I do love those huge 70s’ cream frames from Charles Anastase // These would contrast nicely with Chloe Sevigny’s mormon collection for Opening Ceremony
Jeremy Scott is contributing to the ‘show yer label/logo pronto’ with his namesake sunglasses.
Guys of course don’t miss out either and Dries Van Noten’s menswear shades are quite cool. I’m also liking the unique shape of the womenswear frames.
However, I suspect most guys will be coveting Raf Simons glasses for next season as they are undeniably amazing. Richard Gray’s piece about them in the new 10 for Men magazine made me chortle indeed…

just last night i enjoyed the Linda Farrow Vintage website and my dreams of Dries Van Noten & Raf Simons don’t want to leave me. Was really happy to know they have the ’boutique’ in Moscow – it’s the closest place to me. Not that i will get any of these pure EYE CANDIES but… you never give up dreaming, right?

speaking of sunglasses, there is a photo of the singer of that new band io echo (or maybe they’re just new to me?) on facehunter from today under 1/6/08. at least i’m pretty sure its her, i’ve only ever seen photos of her on stage with bangs in her face, and when she was in iD magazine she had on equally large sunglasses. anyhow, she had on these wicked cool sunglasses, but i’ve never seen the style before. they were sort of a take on the cat eye but far more menacing. i’m quite glad people are moving on from the rayban, to be honest.
I never thought I’ll say this about HoH product, but I love the agyness sunnies!
I think I need some Luella batman sunglasses in my wardrobe this summer! I wonder if I could replicate those myself…
Are sunnies the last territory for designers? They have clothes, shoes, bags, perfumes, and now sunglasses–what is left for them to hawk at us.
That said, the nose sunglasses are quite delightful and I wouldn’t mind a Luella pair.

I discovered Linda Farrow about 2 years ago when I went to Joyce HK. I love their sunglasses and I ended up buying 2 pairs. When my credit card statement arrived a few weeks later, lo and behold I was charged about US$1,600 (conversions and all) for both pairs. I almost had a coronary right then and there. I looked for the receipts and there was no error whatsoever. At that time I didn’t check the price because I had the assumption that it wasn’t a superbrand of any kind, it should’ve been ‘affordable’, right? I was wrong!
Every time I read about Linda Farrow it reminds me of that incident — expensive tit tat, expensive… very expensive plastic sunglasses.
When you said their glasses don’t top ¬£200/$400, perhaps they dropped the price down?
Is Linda Farrow Vintage different from Linda Farrow Gallery? The ones I bought were from Linda Farrow Gallery.
Those are all so fun! They make me long for the sun even more–or maybe a warm, bright vacation.
