The Slew of Shoes…

Firstly, I want to make a formal apology and say that the Nicholas Kirkwood sample sale (posted on the right hand column) actually started today and will be be on for another two days.

Secondly, I want to make an informal apology for the slew of ‘Oh my gosh, I bought this at a sample sale’ posts lately but as it is MY Style Bubble I’m presenting, currently in the bubble, is a calendar of sample sales/braderies that I go to, to prove that actually if you do live in a city where these sales occur, it’s a bit more saavy than spending the same amount of money on the high street stores and also because comparing the original prices and the marked down prices is just incredibly fun.

Lastly, and for this, I’m ashamedly NOT going to apologise for is that I made it to the sale today having found out that it started today and went a bit mad picking up not one but two pairs of shoes.  I put it to the fact that it was a chilled-out sale (expect shoe-grabbing and insane evils tomorrow and Sat me thinks…), with plush carpeting and also the lovely yet modest Mr Kirkwood was there himself.  Scrap that.  Actually, put it to the fact that I’m a Nicholas Kirkwood fan and nothing would have detered me from buying AT least one pair of shoes…

I’m amassing shoes in a disgustingly fast rate these days especially in sample sale times like this but when I saw these black woven and gold wedges with spidery thin straps and a pair of cream canvas and gold chunky heels priced each at ¬£50… ack… even the brain couldn’t tell me to say no.

Given that they’re both from Kirkwood’s SS07 collection, it furthermore does beg the question of ‘Susie, are you stark raving mad?  Buying open toe’s and wedge sandals in the winter indeed….!’.  So then the hoisery collection comes into play.  I don’t envision outfits when I’m buying shoes like these (where surely I can detract ppl from what I’m wearing to my feet….) but rather what tights/socks etc I can wear with them…. and I can usually wintrify most shoes however summery….

So if you are in London, and though the sale is in Knightsbridge (69 Knightsbridge, above Emma Somerset), one of those odd/quasi-surreal areas… I really would get your feet down there tomorrow or Saturday…

  1. People are making you feel bad for going to sample sales? Blaaa to them, they’re just jealous they aren’t in Londinium.

  2. I really wish I lived in a place that didn’t have literally 2 ft of snow. The only option is boots, and sometimes booties even are pushing it. So frustrating! But I hate getting snow stuffed into the ankles of my low shoes, so I guess that’s just the way it is.
Love the shoes, I think that was $$ well invested, they are beauties!

  3. Angie: Ah…but sinking boots into snow is SO much fun. I haven’t seen snow in about….two…years?!
Sprigged: It really isn’t about saying ‘Hey look how great it is that I go to sample sale’ but more like ‘Hey ppl who say that London is a rip-off city are wrong…’

  4. Exactly–we love your sample sales, Susie. And those shoes are cool, esp. the black shown with the cute wintry grey tights.
I love knowing what’s going on in your bubbly part of the world. That’s why I visit here. More power to you!

  5. It’d be more than slightly unfair if you, as a young working girl, DIDN’t take advantage of knocked-down prices to get things you love, just because people are jealous. And ¬£50 for those beauties is an excellent deal methinks…esp. when it’s the high street that sometimes looks like the real ripoff.

  6. Can anybody go to the sample sales or do u need an invitation? sorry if my question sounds stupid..

  7. Pss: This is Laaaandon…. anybody can go…
Hey guys… thanks for sticking up for me… I’m still getting random anon emails along the lines ‘You write a load of crap’…. sometimes I start to believe it myself! Deary me… I think I’ll just go stare at my shoes…

  8. Oh I just read what you added, about people sending you crap e-mails. Just stop for a second and think of what kind of mean-spirited unhappy person would take the time out of their day to write you an e-mail just to say something arrogant and pointless. I’d say they need to find a little more purpose in their life! At least a hobby…
Keep doing what you’re doing, it’s greatly appreciated by many, and if you’re having fun and expressing what you’re truly feeling then you will remain a happy person, and obviously that other person will remain a miserable one.

  9. Ignore the meanies if they question your style then surely they have none you shall go to the ball, and be the best dressed there. xx

  10. Agreed Susie 🙂 You’ve got a proud Londoner here, whose favorite peice came from a sample sale.
You would like it, actually- it is a leather coat cut in the 18thc style. – And there is no way I would of been able to afford it full price. I love this city, but she takes every penny away!

  11. i am usually a bit jealous when you have amazing sample sale finds … but this time i am so amazed at the black shoes with the squares and rectangles that i am just sickeningly pleased for you that you have them…dont worry, im sure the mad jealousy will kick in later

  12. sooooo jealous. i love nicolas kirkwood but cannot afford the real thing. there’s never anything on ebay either. both shoes you bought are gorgeous and 50 pounds is a steal!!!
and sorry to hear you have to deal with those silly emails. but do know you’ve got a LOT of readers out there who really appreciate what you write, and yes, you have your beautiful shoes also!

  13. UK really is great for shopping, we hardly have sample sales here in NZ! I really love the cream shoes, they’re really gorgeous!! 🙂

  14. I went today too and it was amazing, but he didn’t have any 41’s for my huge feet, boo hoo. The lovely Nick assured me that he has more coming in though, so I’ll be back…

  15. there are DIVINE! our sample sales aren’t quite so luxurious or frequent here in Sydney – quite jealous!!

  16. oh my! they are so lovely!!!!! now i really really want to go to London…
and please don’t bother about those anon emails. they really have nothing to do…

  17. They are lovely purchases! Such a bargain when you consider the fact that the likes of TopShop sell shoes for £50 plus!
By the way i love your sample sale posts so don’t stop posting them!

  18. ah i’m so jealous! The one sample sale I wanted to go to was Nicolas Kirkwood and i’m not in london for another week or so unfortunately. bah! Oh well, shoes glorious shoes…..

  19. Ugh, I’m pea green with envy!
Please, please, please don’t tell me the mirror ball platforms were on sale. I’d crawl across broken glass to get my claws on a pair and if they were 50 pounds РI couldn’t go on living!!!

  20. susie, i am in love with those grey tights! even though it’s the start of summer over here in australia and i won’t be able to wear any tights for another four or five months, may i ask you where you got them from?? xx

  21. susie,
these shoes are amazing. once again, thanks to introducing me to designers I have not been aware of.
these shoes are so reminiscent of 1940s style, yet they still look so avant garde. I love them.

  22. The spiderweb tights are not tights sadly…but socks by Eley Kishimoto…still cute nonetheless!
The grey wooly tights are again not tights but mid-calf socks that I like to wear with sandals and a calf length skirt…
    They’re from Tabio in London.
All credit to Nicholas K and his marvelous shoes… if you did make it there hope ppl scored some nice things…
Meg: When are you back in Laaandon?
