The Man Mag Report

Men’s magazines are the dearth-land they used to be.  Don’t think that they escape my attention either as I happily devote my money to a good men’s fashion mag (or sneakily steal from my boyfriend’s stash).  Thom Wong of The Sunday Best is embarking on what I think will be a fruitful project which is to do a mag report on two men’s fashion titles each month for the next 12 months.  By ‘mag’ report, I mean it’s a REALLY meaty, chunky report in manner of the book reports you used to have to write at school…except Thom is a lot more eloquent than ‘This book was great.  I really liked it’.  The composite details of all the mags he has reviewed by the end of the 12 months should hopefully convince a few people that men’s fashion magazines aren’t a waste of time and that there is a lot going for them!  Here are my two cents on the whole men’s mag shebang…

  1. Dear Susie! Your blog is great! I found info at TFS in one of the threads 🙂
It’s off topic but can you help me? I asked my friend who is now in London to buy some fashion related books (ex. D.V., Nina Garcia’s new book, etc.) but she sms-ed me that there are no such books in the book stores 🙁 Where she can search for them? Could you give any addresses?
    Thanks in advance!

  2. The covers of the four magazines on top look quite interesting…and men’s magazines (not the Maxim kind) can be a bit of a relief to go through because their content doesn’t seem as dominated by advertisers as the women’s mags- they have ads, but at least those don’t seem to make up 75% of the pages.

  3. Fantastic Man is a really great magazine, I bought it because Vinoodh was on the cover and ended up reading it cover to cover. Great articles and great photographs.

  4. Fantastic news!
Wong is so very accurate on the whole ‘more fashion in fashion mags’ front. We really do need more.
    DCB.

  5. I have read GQ for quite a while because it is easy to get. I get it primarily for the fashion coverage, but the articles usually are well written, top quality stuff.

  6. Thanks for the kind words – I hope I can live up to them (more astute readers will have noticed I am already one behind).
