I don’t have signature colours that I wear consistently, but I do have a guaranteed happy colour formula that I love to wear once in a while and that is the primary colour combination. It’s sort of the ultra naive, basic childness of the colour wheel that you would have made in primary school (elementary, pre-school, etc) that makes the colour combination associated with happier times for me. Wearing the colours altogether is not the done thing and when I have done it, it has gotten a bit of a mixed opinion but with such delicious primary options from the following designers for SS08, I can’t really help but want to go with the flow of that basic colour wheel and just stick to those primary colours….
DJM has given Pepa Delight’s SS08 collection some lovin’ but I’ll add my two cents by saying that the addition of the origami detailing to their already skilled jersey pieces gives the fluid pieces some much needed structure. Primary wise, the colours are slightly washed-out, like a happy accident in a washing machine. I’ve noticed these slightly washed-out but not pastel colours have dominated a lot of high street collections for SS08 as well as some designer collections so I may have to hope for more washing machine ‘disasters’ to happen.
I didn’t fall in love with Ioannis Dimitrousis‘ oversized print sweaters and geometric hexagonal prints for SS08 until I used one of the pieces for styling purposes. Paired with short shorts, the hugeness and bulk of the sweater works fantastically well and the print plays against the patches of embroidered teensy tiny gem stones (which is exquisite in real life). I think Dimitrousis must have had a lot of fun with the colour wheel as a child too…
Yes it’s that time when H&M’s SS08 lookbook images are revealed. One can only think ‘Prada SS07 retread? Eh?’ when looking through the images but it’s shots of vivid primary colours in satin are exactly the sort of cheap cheerful-ness that you would expect H&M to excel in.
Finally, Steve J & Yoni P, whose African tribe-influenced halternecks and cute knitted shorts for SS08 swayed me when I again got hold of their pieces for styling. They used a sort of plastic raffia along with wool to produce some really interesting knitted effects.

I’m really glad that you provided a description of the Steve J & Yoni P halterneck pieces as “African tribe influenced,” because otherwise..WTF?
There’s a mens moto coat in the new collection that’s made of shiny pvc patent leather that I’m totally going to have to find once it hits stores.
for the funky artfull-ness, without the crazy “why would you war that” factor.. i definitely want to recommend checking out artfulwears.com … it has african tribe influence pieces… and GREAT ACCESSORIES.. that are actually wearble in public!! trust e on this one, i highly recommend it.
