I seem to be one of those odd people who don’t get affected by the cold on my legs. Perhaps it was all those nights spent waiting for the nightbus wearing short flippy skirts in sub zero temperatures that have aclimatised my legs to not feeling the cold (the place where I do feel it the most is my face….. if you see me rubbing my face with my hands in manner of Edvard Munch’s Scream painting, you’ll know I’m trying to keep myself warm….).
Whilst I will always have loyalties towards my collection of opaques, I do feel sheer tights are on the up in my hierarchy of hoisery affection. The latest issue of British Vogue is already gearing people up for that ‘in-between’ season where dressing can be tricky and whilst I’m in no way done with winter clothing (London has yet to feel the thick of winter….), there isn’t any harm in going sheer on the legs especially since mine can withstand the cold….
Jonathan Aston’s sheer tights are so delightfully cheap and come in 29 colours that range from ice-cream pastels to rich jewel tones. I have started it off with some vibrant colours of hyacinth, mulberry and green. This will of course include more and more as that in-between season slowly creeps in…

Damn, girl, you’ve got the eel-ec-tric groove going on with those green ones! Those are my favorite pair, for reasons I cannot explain. The truth is I wore a similar pair to a job when I was about your age and was sent home to change. Ah, nostalgia.
I can’t wait for spring, it’ll be sheer mania.
I’m still dreaming about the nina ricci dip dye tights…my hands will be blue for a week after I’m through with those bad boys…
btw, I made a blog revolved around my school’s (SAIC) fashion department, if you have the time, you should check it out!

thanksss
Oh goodness, Susie…I just did a post on the exact same thing, though I was more focussed on how much of a pain it is when they snag..
I have a feeling that people in Britain don’t feel cold at all. I took a trip to London with a couple of friends last year mid-November and we were shocked to see how people dressed for a chilly night. We were freezing with mittens and wool hats whereas Brit birds were cheerfully prancing around town in itty-bitty miniskirts and bare legs. I’m from Finland so I should be accustomed to icy cold weather…
Every season, I get an obsession with a new ‘trend’, so I try and indulge as cheaply as possible in case I decide it’s not for me 🙂 Coloured tights are my new obsession, and you know what’s been fantastic for satisfying it? Primark!! Beautiful hues of ochre, teal, fuschia and purple for a grand total of £1 each. Say what you like about Primark, but it sure is unbeatable for basics.
I share Drusilla’s pain. I thrifted some vintage sheer hose/tights still in their package the other day. They got snags in them as soon as I pulled them on:(
I don’t believe I’ve ever been attracted to sheer colored tights before, but I am now! I miss living in London.
Love the sheer coloured stockings comeback, wearing them is so much fun and it adds much needed colour to a mostly dull winter wardrobe.
Damn, I want those. And I have no feeling in my legs (years of going to a uniform school and wearing short skirts in the winter finally pay off!) so I think they would be perfect.
I’m on the fence. Colourful, yes. Fashionable, yes. My chances of wearing them? Slim to none. After all, I never took up on the whole legging thing when they came full circle from the 80’s and abruptly landed smack dab in 2006/2007. The shame.
These remind me of sheer blue tights that I wore obsessively about 15 years ago. What am I saying? I was a fetus then.
I guess I’m the only one who cannot stand sheer tights, at least coloured ones. I can’t exactly put my finger on what it is that bugs me, but I would never wear them.
hey susie! I just did a post on my blog (I just started it recently) about opaque tights! This is cool, I love your blog!
I’ve added you to my links list, is that okay? It would be REALLY awesome if you linked me too.
Thanks!
I am one of those people I wear flip flops when it snows!!!
“Whilst I will always have loyalties towards my collection of opaques, I do feel sheer tights are on the up in my hierarchy of hoisery affection.”
The perfect sentence. Makes me wish I wore tights. Damn being born in the wrong century!
