I think I will have to be very strategic when planning my first trip to Berlin (airport stopovers DON’T count!) next year. When boutiques like the Best Shop have six seasons instead of two. From the 1st Sept 2007, Best Shop has been renewing their stock every 60 days. Each season, a selection of up and coming designers have been selected to be stocked at Best during that 60 day period. On the shop and on the website, there is even a countdown, counting down the days, hours, minutes and seconds to when the next collection will come in. Therefore, it’s only logical that I get out to Berlin on the cusp of the change of ‘seasons’ at Best.

I think I have spoken about platforms for the REAL up and coming designers to get their work out in a real live retail environment and this concept in a more frequent rate of rotation means designers from all over the world have the chance of getting a look-in from the public and for the shop itself as the season is a shorter cycle, if that designer doesn’t fare well sales-wise, it’s less of a risk buying wise as they would be buying smaller quantities anyway. For us as the consumer, we in turn get exposed to a greater array of designers within a boutique that normally may only buy in 6 or 8 labels but within the course of the year you could be choosing from 36.
Sadly their concept six-season stock is not available on their online shop so a trip is definitely in order. Actually in general a trip to Berlin is in order anyway as I get the feeling that an indepth Susie Shop search is in order in this quietly cool capital. Oh well. It’s off to Ryanair to go scouring for ¬£1 flights then. By my calculations, arriving on the 29th Feb (woot for the leap year…) will ensure that I get to peruse the third and fourth seasons at Best, and if the current and past designers featured are anything to go by, I’m in for a surprise as these are REALLY REALLY young/new labels.
Sept-Oct’s label selection…
Nov-Dec’s label selection (current)…

a countdown till the next collection comes out! That’s cool!..
