Rolling in the Rosettes

Rosettes for spring summer?  Good lord, how innovative!  Ok, not really.  This motif is a tried and tested bit of spring goddess goodness.  Remember that 3.1 Phillip Lim SS07 white rosette dress?  The number of eBay fakes that turned up was so alarming, on the one day we got a bit of a sunshine in London, I saw three girls wearing that same dress sunning in the park.

However, why ruin a good thing?  If the many floral prints for SS08 aren’t taking your fancy, sticking to wearing a floral structure as opposed to pattern may be a better option.  Near Nippon’s SS08 collection takes the rosette and far from running away with it, uses it in measured doses in all the clothes.  A touch here and there like they organically belonged on those chiffon blouses and navy satin zip smock dresses.  The only piece where the rosettes completely take over is on the cream skirt which is still perfection because the rosettes become so oversized.  The anklet rosettes also give me more ideas about doing more elaborate ‘shoestrings’.

  1. I do like a rosette like this. I can’t do florals at all, but this I can do. The skirt is stunning.

  2. I love this look. I would love to make some myself, shame i’m not very good at arts and crafts 🙁

  3. It’d be nice to be able to make rosettes and pin them on to clothes..I had a really pretty pink chiffon one but lost it.

  4. florals, for spring, groundbreaking.
    Ahh i love that quote.

  5. I love these, they remind me of a photoshoot from You magazine (Mail on Sunday) which was inspired by Shakespeare. They did this really beautiful one inspired by Juliet with all this light blue chiffon and mary jane shoes and dark blue pom poms and silver roses. Doesn’t sound that great the way I’ve described it but it was sooo pretty!
P.S I don’t mean to be rude but hasn’t that girl got the strangest knees?
