I’m finally and very very tentatively dipping my toes into the unknown realms of fashion styling (amateur that I am…. I won’t delve too much into this extra curricular venture seeing as I’ve never done anything like this….) and for an upcoming shoot, I had to make a trip to London Graphic Centre for some unusual materials. In addition to the miles of cellophane I bought (more about that later…), I also came across some wonderful flocked paper from Artoz. In particular, there was a navy velvet lace-effect paper that really got the mind boggling. For the amount I bought, it wasn’t cheap but a little goes a long way and with minimal effort, a fold here or there and a useful skinny belt, there adds a different dimension to an outfit.
Of course, if I posessed the skills and artistry of Tao Kurihara, I would immediately get stuck in and attempt a confectionary of manipulated paper akin to Tao’s SS07 collection (who did NOT love that….). Seeing as I’m bereft of those skills, I’m content with some paper touches. Just don’t walk around Camden on a Saturday night when some drunken lout might get confused by your paper accessory and attempt to rip it.

If you’re looking for some unusual papers I’d definitely head to Paperchase on Tottenham Court Road…there’s loads to be snapped there (unfortunately just as pricey but equally lovely!)
That second outfit is wonderful! But I have to ask – Don’t you make a…erm…crinkling sound when you move? The outfits are lovely, though.
Your looks are very reminiscent of Tao’s show. I love the stuff that Rob Ryan created for British Vogue (and others) a while back out of intricately cut paper.
oooooh
i like this one….
Faulkiner Fine Papers on 76 Southampton Row also have juicy pickings, but expensive! They have some nice japanese prints too.
Squeee! Beautiful idea–especially the last outfit with your modded Primark jacket, but I can’t help but blanche at the inevitable image of soggy, crumbled paper scraps at the end of a rainy Vancouver day.
Gorgeous! By the way, where’s the pleated skirt in the second pic from?
What’s this about you going into fashion styling? Am I missing something…Is it for a magazine? Are we going to hear more about it? 🙂
I LOVE your second outfit, but dare I say it – I don’t think the paper is doing anything to enhance it. I think the outfit would look perfect without it.
The second outfit is also the only time I have seen a Primark jacket look good (but that’s only because of what you did to it, with the added pleated bits).
Your second outfit especially looks like a piece of art.
Ooh, I like the second outfit! Where did you get that white ruffly skirty thing?
🙂 S
I think it would make too much of a crinkly sound when you walk. so I suggest you hop over to Japan and buy some gorgeous cloth prints that they sell over there and do it up the same way…:)
I am enjoying the “flirt meets innocent” skirt of the second skirt. Brings layering to a delightful playful level 😉
Ah..the hours spent at Paperchase as a teen…spending all my money on art materials. I work by Falkiners… I love it there too!
The pleated skirt is from this shop in Tokyo which I haven’t a clue what it’s called…
No crinkling sounds as the paper is firmly strapped in… and of course this isn’t viable for the wet summer we Brits had, but perfectly fine for the Indian summer we’re having.
Some of you will know but the white ruffly ‘skirt’ thing is actually a white felt attachment I made for the Primark jacket I’m wearing.
DJM: Perhaps…but you know me…perfection is not something I strive to attain….
Miz: Definitely more on that later…
