I have a real dislike for looking too ‘themed’ or ‘boxed-in’ which is why when trends like military, naval, Victoriana etc end up in the trend roundup reports, I tend to shirk away. There is nothing wrong with period/themed trends like those but for me personally, to be decked out head to toe in one of them would be plain ridiculous and I’d be cringing as I was walking. Case in point, hints of military have seeped back in but not in the full blown force as it was a few seasons ago. Luella gave some horse riding/Sgt Pepper type coats whilst Aquascutum interpreted bits of the Crimean War with a few military touches.
I do believe though that nothing can touch the real thing as I came across this gentleman on the bus (of which regiment I cannot be sure but you’re welcome to hunt through this index to find out…) in a red military coat, hat complete with navy red-piped trousers. I think I would feel a little silly if I was to jump on the same bus as him clad in a fashion interpretation of his uniform, especially one that was trying to emulate the real thing as much as possible.
However, whilst I may not be down for doing the head to toe military invasion, but I am keen to find navy trousers with that same vivid red piping as well as adding gold buttons to jackets or trouser pockets that are decidedly un-military like. Hopefully this gent would approve.

Got to love the chelsea pensioners

Especially their even nattier tricorn hats. I used to have black trousers with red piping like that but haven’t seen anything like it in years.
Ah yes…no wonder the man got on at that particular stop…. thanks for the info! I want his trousers….
i can never get into this stuff.
This gentleman is magnificent

… what did he think of you taking a photo of him though?
He might not have known it was being taken…but hopefully, he’d approve.
