Best Bus in the World

This is probably a post that only people who have been to London Fashion Week will understand but I do have to give some mucho respect to Clare, one of the organisers behind London Fashion Week.  Clare is also known as ‘The LFW bus lady’, i.e. the person who knows when the shows are ending so that the LFW photographers and press buses are parked outside the show venues punctually for pick-up to go to the next show.  She also ensures everyone gets on the bus and irons out any aggro between people and the busdrivers (who can be a little aggressive- ‘NO PASS, NO BUS!’ is their oft-used phrase).  She does all of this whilst being immaculately dressed and supremely chic.  The woman is running around directing buses in HEELS!  So thanks Clare.

I’m not sure if NYC and Milan have a dedicated bus wheeling press people from show to show (I learnt Paris doesn’t have one…) so it’s the most handiest thing that London does, especially when the venues are spread out from one end of town to the other.  I’ve also had times of feeling blue/weary/tired on the bus when the loud fashion chat of other journalists ensues (the things you hear are eyebrow-raising…) but then I have that moment of thinking ‘Wow… I’m on a bus going to fashion shows’ and I scold myself for even moaning in my head.

Most LFW press-goers don’t have personal LFW cabs waiting for them and I’m certainly unlikely ever to have one, but I’ll take the bus anyday…

  2. Oh so that is her name? She is very friendly and always looks so cool. I love her hair. Also the bus is fantastic, I don’t know what I would do without it. Such a fantastic perk. Well done Cannons, LFW and the bus people.

  3. Actually, there are always one or two buses at the Paris fashion week, but there is definitely no Clare equivalent. She looks stunning!

  4. Oh yes, Clare is a total sweetheart. I love the bus, especially when I don’t have a ticket to the next show but I need a lift to that part of town. Erm…is that wrong?

  8. I don’t know about a press bus in NYC, but in the seven years I worked a block away from Bryant Park I saw many a photographer dashing from a cab while carrying a stepladder to give them a better perspective in the show…this past Fashion Week even had a photographer carrying a stepladder on the back of her bicycle–anything goes in New York!

  9. Erm…I’m not sure whether that girl in the picture is meant to be Clare, but her actual name is Bola.
