It’s gotten to the point where there really is not point in ignoring those pesky resort collections which I used to dismiss as a little on the dull and diffused side. Clearly, with more and more designers getting into the resort game, things have picked up a bit design-wise. It is surprising that even the young-ish and independent designers have the resources to produce resort collections but I suppose in reverse effect, doing a resort collection is also another source of revenue.
Richard Nicoll is a newcomer to the resort game and though I’m never have been 100% into his collections (there is only so many different things you can do with a white shirt before it gets a little samey), for his pre-collection 2008, he’s incorporated one of my favourite waist features – the peplum. I have a real THING for peplum shirts, tops or dresses. It’s a bit of a body illusion trick giving subtle waistage and hippage. It’s also an eye-pleasing design feature as Nicoll has used some sharp pleating. I’m liking the idea of the peplum being a detachable belt. The grey belt over the white shirt is like the waist equivalent of a neck ruffle. Adornment without too much fuss.
Definitely something to look out for in those dark winter months when the main spring collections have yet to arrive.

what about those heels!!! the color and style are amazing!
HOORAY!!! At last, someone else loves peplums! I have long heralded them as the way forward for belts and I’m glad you do too. Great minds think alike 🙂
oh gosh… i didn’t even know what a peplum was until today. you learn something new every day!
i personally am in love with #3. the grey colonel sanders tie, and the peplum over a tuxedo shirt dress… just throw in some super high ankle boots and i’m in!
I love the ruffled belt! Very cute
this is off-topic, but I LOVE that model. I can actually see myself in the clothes. amazing. also, I’m slightly reminded of christopher kane’s latest collection–the style and placement of the pleats.
I love this collection! I wonder how easy it would be to make a peplum…
eurgh i hate ben grimes. i love the clothes but she does nothing for them. chunky chunky chunky, she looks huge and is ugly.
these are perfect. i want one!
